Description
Overview
Smith & Nephew UNI-SOLVE Adhesive Remover Wipes are pre-saturated, non-woven wipes for topical skin use. The clear, colorless solvent blend rapidly dissolves medical adhesive residues to aid atraumatic removal of tapes, dressings, ostomy appliances, and similar devices. Effective on acrylic-, rubber-, and hydrocolloid-based adhesives, the wipes have a mild solvent/perfumed odor and contain a small amount of aloe extract.
Key features and applications
- Helps reduce skin trauma and irritation during device removal
- Fast-acting solvent action loosens adhesive residues
- Non-woven polyester–rayon wipe conforms to skin contours
- Individually sealed foil sachets; 50 single-use wipes per box
- Suitable for clinics, home care, and ostomy management
Composition and typical properties
- Solvent system: isopropyl alcohol (IPA); hydrotreated light petroleum/isoparaffin (approx. C10–C11); dipropylene glycol methyl ether (DPM). Major solvents present in significant proportions; aloe extract <1%; fragrance <0.1%.
- Wipe substrate: non-woven polyester–rayon (~50% of wipe mass).
- Typical liquid properties: initial boiling point ~76°C; flash point ~17°C (closed cup); vapor pressure ~10 mmHg at 20°C; specific gravity ~0.81 (25°C); partly miscible with water; refractive index ~1.403 (25°C); flammability limits in air ~2.0%–12.7%; volatile by volume ~50%.
Directions for use
- Use in a well-ventilated area. Open a sachet and gently wipe along the edges of the adhesive or residue until it releases. Remove remaining residue with a fresh section of the wipe. Allow skin to dry fully before applying a new device.
Safety and handling
- For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, open wounds, or mucous membranes; avoid inhalation of vapors; keep out of reach of children and away from painted/finished surfaces.
- Hazard classification: Highly flammable liquid and vapor (GHS Flam. Liq. 2, H225); causes serious eye irritation (Eye Irrit. 2, H319); may cause drowsiness or dizziness (STOT SE 3, H336). Legacy/EU: R11; R65.
- Handling/storage: Keep away from heat/sparks/open flames; use with adequate ventilation; avoid breathing vapors and prolonged skin contact; store cool (≤25°C), dry, and well-ventilated; keep sachets tightly closed; avoid strong oxidizers and strong acids/alkalis.
- PPE (as needed for heavy/repeated use): Consider solvent-resistant gloves (e.g., nitrile) and eye protection.
First aid
- Inhalation: Move to fresh air; seek medical advice if symptoms persist.
- Eyes: Rinse cautiously with water for at least 15 minutes; remove contact lenses if present and easy; seek medical attention.
- Skin: Wash with soap and water; remove contaminated clothing.
- Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting; rinse mouth; seek immediate medical attention/poison control.
