Description
Monosyn® by B. Braun is a versatile, absorbable suture designed for both veterinary and human soft tissue surgeries. Crafted from a synthetic copolymer, it offers mid-term absorption, making it ideal for a wide range of surgical applications. Its monofilament structure ensures smooth passage through tissue, minimizing drag and reducing the risk of infection compared to braided sutures.
Key Features
- Absorption Profile: Monosyn® is absorbed through hydrolysis within 60 to 90 days, retaining approximately 70% of its tensile strength after 7 days, 50% after 14 days, and 20% after 21 days.
- Knot Security: The suture provides high initial tensile strength and excellent knot security, coupled with flexibility for easy handling.
- Uncoated Surface: This feature ensures a uniform diameter, resulting in atraumatic pull-through and removal, while reducing irritation and inflammation.
Color and Size Options
Monosyn® is available in dyed violet and undyed beige, with suture diameters ranging from USP 7/0 to USP 2. It comes in thread lengths of 45cm and 70cm, and offers various needle types, including reverse cutting and several DS and HR configurations. Packaging options include boxes of 12 or 36 individually wrapped sutures.
Intended Use
This suture is suitable for general soft tissue approximation and ligation in surgeries related to general practice, gynecology, obstetrics, urology, gastrointestinal tract, oral surgery, pediatrics, and plastic surgery. It is not intended for use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic, or neurological tissues.
Compliance
Monosyn® meets the standards of the European Pharmacopoeia and United States Pharmacopoeia for sterile, synthetic absorbable monofilament sutures, with minor variations in suture diameter. Its comprehensive range of needle-thread combinations and broad indication field make it a standard choice in many surgical settings.
