Description
Designed for individuals at risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), the Anti-Embolism Stocking in Large size offers essential support during periods of immobility such as surgery, hospitalization, or long-distance travel. By providing graduated compression, these stockings enhance blood flow velocity in the legs, significantly reducing the risk of clot formation.
Key Features
- Graduated Compression: The stocking features a clinically proven compression pattern, firmest at the ankle and decreasing up the leg, to effectively speed blood flow and reduce venous distension.
- Design Options: Available in both knee-high and thigh-high versions, it includes a defined heel pocket for accurate placement and a convenient toe opening for easy skin and pulse inspection.
- Seamless Construction: The contoured, seamless design minimizes slippage and eliminates constriction, while the inlay circumferential knit provides one-way horizontal stretch to maintain proper pressure.
- Specialized Knit: Features such as a pressure break at the popliteal vein and an interrupted band with a 2-ply gusset prevent a tourniquet effect at the femoral vein.
- Latex-Free: Not manufactured with natural rubber latex, making it suitable for those with latex sensitivities.
Sizing and Fit
The Large size is tailored for specific measurements:
- Calf Circumference: 38.2 cm – 44.5 cm
- Knee Length (Regular): Heel to knee 35.6 cm – 45.7 cm
- Knee Length (Long): Heel to knee >45.7 cm
- Thigh Length: Thigh circumference <63.6 cm, with specific heel to buttock measurements
Proper fitting involves aligning the heel pocket with the user’s heel and ensuring the top of the stocking sits appropriately below the kneecap for knee-high versions. It should be applied smoothly without wrinkles, and a compression stocking applicator is recommended if needed.
Care Instructions
Regular care includes removing the stocking daily for up to 30 minutes for skin inspection and hygiene. Washing can be done by hand or machine at temperatures up to 95°C, with air drying or tumble drying at a maximum of 70°C. The stocking should not be ironed or dry cleaned, and wringing or twisting should be avoided.
Usage Guidelines
These stockings are intended for continuous wear during day and night until normal activity resumes or as advised by a healthcare professional. They should be removed before bed unless otherwise instructed by clinical staff. Proper application and removal are crucial to ensure fit and prevent complications.
Contraindications
Use is not recommended for individuals with certain conditions such as severe arteriosclerosis, significant leg deformity, or allergies to the stocking material. Regular re-measurement is advised if leg size changes or discomfort occurs.
Longevity
The stocking should be replaced if elasticity diminishes, if damaged, or after six months of use. Typically, patients are provided with two pairs to allow for alternating use, ensuring consistent support and hygiene.
