Description
The Portex Blue Line Ultra Tracheostomy Tube, size 6.0MM, is a specialized medical device crafted by ICU Medical, formerly known as Smiths Medical. Designed for adult tracheostomy care, this tube offers a range of configurations to meet diverse clinical needs, including cuffed and uncuffed versions, as well as fenestrated and non-fenestrated options.
Material and Design
Constructed from thermosensitive PVC, the tube provides initial rigidity for easy insertion and softens at body temperature to conform comfortably to patient anatomy. Its radio-opaque nature ensures accurate positioning through imaging. The tube features an arc-shaped shaft with a tapered tip, facilitating smoother placement and removal.
Key Features
- Clear Flange: The anatomically-shaped, soft flange offers secure positioning and easy access for stoma care.
- Connector: A bonded 15 mm connector allows for seamless ventilator attachment, usable with or without the inner cannula.
- Cuff Design: On cuffed models, the Profile Soft-Seal cuff minimizes trauma while providing an effective tracheal seal.
Inner Cannulae
Each tube comes with reusable, color-coded inner cannulae, available in both fenestrated and non-fenestrated versions. The inner cannula has an ID of 5.0 mm and matches the tube length of 64.5 mm. Two cannulae are supplied, one for immediate use and one as a spare, with additional packs available separately.
Suctionaid Model
For models equipped with Suctionaid, an additional suction lumen above the cuff aids in secretion management and aspiration risk reduction. A thumb valve is included for controlled suction.
Kit Components
The comprehensive kit may include:
- Tracheostomy tube
- Two inner cannulae
- Cleaning brush
- Tracheostomy tube holder
- Obturator with a special clip design
- Suction control valve (if applicable)
- Disconnect wedge
- Patient label
Maintenance
Proper maintenance involves regular cleaning of the inner cannula, recommended every 2–4 hours. Cleaning involves rinsing under tap water or soaking in mild detergent, using the provided brush, and ensuring thorough drying. The cleaning brush should be replaced daily. If present, cuff pressure should be monitored and maintained at 20–30 mmHg.
Compatibility
The tube is compatible with Passy-Muir Valves (PMV), with specific instructions for use. Clear markings on the pilot balloon aid in easy identification.
Safety Notice
A warning regarding California Proposition 65 is included, noting potential cancer and reproductive harm, ensuring users are well-informed of associated risks.
