Description
The Avanos MICROCUFF Paediatric Endotracheal Tube is a cuffed airway device for neonatal and paediatric patients, intended for use by trained clinicians in operating theatre, ICU, and emergency settings. It combines a high‑volume, low‑pressure polyurethane cuff with precise placement aids to provide an effective tracheal seal at minimal pressures while supporting accurate depth verification and ongoing monitoring.
Design and materials
- Ultra‑thin, strong polyurethane MICROCUFF cuff engineered for a true high‑volume, low‑pressure profile to seal at minimal cuff pressures
- Short, cylindrical cuff positioned within the trachea to maintain a cuff‑free subglottic zone
- Supplied without a Murphy eye
- Sterile and natural rubber latex‑free construction
Placement and verification features
- Black vocal cord placement marker near/above the cuff to guide insertion depth
- Four precision positioning/verification bands to help confirm correct depth after intubation
- Centimetre depth markings along the tube for consistent placement documentation and ongoing depth checks
- Continuous radiopaque line for clear X‑ray visibility
Performance and clinical characteristics
- Effective tracheal seal at low cuff pressures; reported median seal pressure around 11 cm H2O for 4.0 mm ID in children 2–4 years
- Sealed airway supports minimal/low‑flow anaesthesia and consistent positive‑pressure ventilation
- Reliable end‑tidal CO2 and anaesthetic gas monitoring through a stable seal
- Helps reduce aspiration risk by minimizing fluid leakage past the cuff
