Description
The MICROCUFF Paediatric Endotracheal Tube by Avanos is expertly designed to enhance pediatric airway management with precision and safety. This sterile, single-use device is latex-free and features an advanced cuffed design to provide an effective airway seal at ultra-low pressures. This design significantly reduces the risk of mucosal injury and airway trauma, ensuring adequate ventilation while minimizing aspiration risks.
Innovative Cuff Design
- Material: The cuff is crafted from a microthin polyurethane membrane, only 10 microns thick, offering high volume and low pressure characteristics.
- Performance: It maintains an ultra-low sealing pressure, averaging 9–11 cm H₂O, and adapts seamlessly to various pediatric airway shapes and sizes.
- Durability: The cuff membrane withstands burst pressures exceeding 800 cm H₂O, providing robust puncture resistance and a reliable seal against aspiration.
Tube Construction
- Material: Constructed from PVC, the tube includes a radiopaque line for enhanced visibility and centimeter depth markings for precise placement.
- Design: Features a black intubation depth mark above the cuff and four precision bands to confirm optimal placement. Available in Magill (Oral/Nasal) and Oral Curved (RAE) types, both designed without a Murphy Eye.
- Connector: Equipped with a Blue Vent Connector in the current version.
Sizing Options
- Internal Diameters: Ranges from 3.0 mm to 7.0 mm, catering to various age groups and anatomical needs.
- Placement: Recommendations are based on patient age and weight, with considerations for those with abnormal tracheal anatomy.
Placement and Use
- Intubation Marks: The black intubation depth mark should align between the vocal cords for accurate placement.
- Cuff Management: After intubation, ensure an audible air leak at ≤20 cm H₂O with the cuff deflated. Inflate the cuff only to the necessary sealing pressure, not exceeding 20 cm H₂O, and continuously monitor cuff pressure.
Clinical Performance
The MICROCUFF tube provides a reliably sealed airway at low cuff pressures, reducing the need for tube exchanges and throat packs. It demonstrates fewer air leaks and maintains adequate ventilation, with similar ease of intubation and post-operative outcomes compared to uncuffed tubes. Post-operative complications such as cough, sore throat, and hoarseness are minimal and comparable.
Packaging and Maintenance
Each tube is supplied sterile, with 10 tubes per box per size/type. Intended for single use, it should be discarded after use, with aseptic techniques maintained throughout. Continuous monitoring of cuff pressure is essential to ensure optimal performance during use.
The MICROCUFF Paediatric Endotracheal Tube stands as a safe and effective solution for pediatric patients requiring endotracheal intubation, particularly in surgical settings, offering peace of mind to healthcare professionals through its innovative design and reliable performance.
