Description
The Avanos MICROCUFF Paediatric Endotracheal Tube is a cuffed ETT designed for paediatric airway anatomy and supplied without a Murphy eye. Its ultra‑thin, strong polyurethane MICROCUFF membrane (~10 microns) features a short, cylindrical, high‑volume/low‑pressure geometry intended to achieve an effective tracheal seal at minimal cuff pressure. The cuff is positioned to sit within the trachea, away from the pressure‑sensitive larynx. Variants include Oral/Nasal Magill for oral or nasal routes and Oral Curved (RAE) for oral use.
Cuff and Seal Technology
- Ultra‑thin, strong polyurethane cuff (~10 μm) for a conforming seal
- Short, cylindrical HVLP design to promote low sealing pressures
- Cuff placement intended to minimize contact with the larynx
Placement and Verification Aids
- Black vocal cord marker near/above the cuff to guide insertion depth
- Four precision positioning/verification bands to confirm depth after intubation
- Centimeter depth markings for consistent placement and documentation
- Continuous radiopaque line for X‑ray visibility
Performance Characteristics
- Designed to provide an effective airway seal at low cuff pressures
- Reported median cuff pressure to seal ≈11 cm H2O in children aged 2–4 years (assessed shortly after intubation)
- Cuff membrane withstands burst pressures >800 cm H2O
