Description

The MIC-KEY Low-Profile Jejunal Feeding Tube is a button-style enteral access device that provides direct access to the distal duodenum/proximal jejunum for delivery of tube feeds, fluids, and medications when gastric feeding is not tolerated or contraindicated. It is designed for patients with conditions such as disordered gastric emptying, gastric outlet obstruction, severe GERD with aspiration risk, or following esophagectomy/gastrectomy. Prescription use only.

Intended use and patient population

• For jejunal feeding and medication administration in patients who cannot tolerate or adequately absorb nutrition via the stomach.
• Rx only; use under clinician supervision.

Design and materials

• Medical-grade silicone construction for flexibility and biocompatibility.
• Internal inflatable retention balloon and fixed external retention disc/bolster to help maintain position.
• Low-profile button sits close to the skin; a detachable extension set is required to access the valve for feeds and medications.
• Single access port labeled “Jejunal”; no separate medication port.
• Proximal anti-reflux valve to help limit backflow when no extension is attached.
• Trimmable, tapered distal tip to tailor distal length to patient anatomy.
• Radiopaque stripe for fluoroscopic visibility; external centimeter markings for length verification (where provided).

Ports and connectivity

• Button interface uses a keyed SECUR-LOK connection compatible with MIC-KEY extension sets.
• Detachable extension sets allow the button to remain low-profile when not in use.
• Extension sets available in continuous and bolus styles and in multiple connector configurations:
• ENFit extension set options (in select kits/configurations).
• Non-ENFit (catheter-tip) extension set options, depending on product configuration and clinical practice.

Sizes and options

• Outer diameters: 14 Fr and 18 Fr.
• Stoma lengths (cm): 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 1.7, 2.0, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5.
• Jejunal length: 82 cm (typical across sizes).

Placement and replacement

• May be placed percutaneously under fluoroscopic or endoscopic guidance, surgically, or used as a replacement device through an established stoma tract. Follow the manufacturer’s Instructions for Use (IFU) and institutional protocols.

Sterility and regulatory status

• Sterile; gamma sterilized.
• Prescription use (Rx only).

Handling and maintenance considerations

• Do not rotate jejunal or gastro-jejunal tubes; rotation can torque the tube and lead to retraction into the stomach.
• Balloon care: inflate only with sterile or distilled water; check balloon volume weekly and refill to the prescribed volume; stabilize the tube while inflating/deflating; follow IFU for balloon fill volumes by size.
• Medication administration: use liquid formulations when possible; if solids are required, ensure they are crushable and mix with water; never crush enteric-coated medications; flush with water before dosing and between medications.
