Description
Intended use
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Jejunal (J) Feeding Tube is a single-use, prescription enteral access device designed to provide jejunal-only feeding. Typical clinical scenarios include intolerance of gastric feeding, impaired gastric emptying, intestinal dysmotility, gastric outlet obstruction, severe gastroesophageal reflux, aspiration risk, or history of upper GI surgery (e.g., esophagectomy/gastrectomy).
Placement and route
- Inserted through a gastric stoma with the distal segment positioned in the distal duodenum or proximal jejunum.
- Placement methods may include endoscopic, radiologic (fluoroscopic guidance), surgical, or exchange through an established tract, per clinical judgment and the instructions for use (IFU).
Design and key features
- Low-profile, button-style housing with external bolster for a discreet profile at the stoma site.
- Medical-grade silicone construction.
- Internal retention balloon with separate white inflation port labeled “BAL”; French size is marked on the BAL port.
- Adjustable SECUR-LOK external retention ring for stabilization.
- Anti-reflux valve in the feeding port that opens when the correct MIC-KEY extension set is engaged.
- Tapered, trimmable distal tip to tailor jejunal segment length as clinically required.
- Radiopaque stripe to aid visualization under imaging.
- Centimeter markings to assist with external length verification during assessment.
Connectors and compatibility
- Requires MIC-KEY extension sets featuring the keyed/SECUR-LOK patient-end interface that mates with the button’s feeding port.
- Available in configurations compatible with ENFit feed sets or non-ENFit catheter tip feed sets (availability varies by model/configuration).
- Compatible extension sets are offered for continuous or bolus feeding and medication administration.
Sizes and options
- Outer diameter: 14 Fr or 18 Fr.
- Jejunal length: 82 cm (fixed across described configurations).
- Stoma length options (cm): 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 1.7, 2.0, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5.
- Suitable for pediatric and adult patients based on size selection.
Care and handling highlights
- Do not rotate jejunal (J) or gastric‑jejunal (GJ) tubes; rotation can cause torquing and proximal migration.
- Inflate the internal retention balloon with sterile or distilled water only; use the IFU-specified fill volume for the selected size.
Sterility
- Supplied sterile (e.g., gamma-irradiated) for single use.
