Description
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Jejunal (J) Feeding Tube is designed for direct enteral delivery to the small intestine in patients who cannot tolerate or adequately absorb gastric feeding. This low-profile, button-style device provides discreet, secure access for continuous or bolus jejunal feeding and medication delivery under clinician direction.
Indications and Placement
- For feeding and medication administration into the distal duodenum/proximal jejunum (e.g., intestinal motility disorders, gastric outlet obstruction, severe GERD, aspiration risk, post-esophagectomy/gastrectomy).
- Percutaneous placement under fluoroscopic or endoscopic guidance, or as a replacement into an established stoma tract.
Design and Key Features
- Low-profile, button-style jejunostomy tube with a single access port labeled “Jejunal.”
- Non-ENFit connection; use a compatible catheter-tip extension set to access the port.
- Internal retention balloon and fixed external retention disc to help maintain position and reduce the risk of retrograde migration into the stomach.
- Trimmable distal tip to tailor intraluminal length to patient needs (by qualified clinicians per IFU).
- Radiopaque stripe for visibility under imaging.
- Medical-grade silicone construction for flexibility and biocompatibility.
- Sterile, gamma sterilized; prescription use only (Rx-only).
Specifications (18 Fr, 2.5 cm)
- Outer diameter: 18 Fr.
- Stoma (shaft) length: 2.5 cm.
- Jejunal length: 82 cm, measured from the distal aspect of the retention balloon to the tube tip.
- Access: Single jejunal port; no separate medication port.
- Connection type: Non-ENFit, catheter-tip compatible (extension set required).
Handling and Use Considerations
- Balloon: Inflate with sterile or distilled water only. Do not use saline, tap water, or air. Stabilize the tube during inflation/deflation and follow IFU/clinical guidance for fill volumes.
- Do not rotate jejunal or gastric-jejunal tubes; rotation can cause torquing and retraction into the stomach.
- Medications: Prefer liquid formulations. If tablets/capsules are appropriate to crush, mix with water; do not crush enteric-coated products. Flush with water before, between, and after medications. Avoid mixing medications with formula.
- Use a compatible catheter-tip extension set to access the non-ENFit port.
