Description
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube is a skin-level, double-lumen enteral device placed through a gastric stoma, with the distal limb positioned in the jejunum. It supports simultaneous jejunal feeding and gastric decompression/venting in pediatric and adult patients.
Design and access ports
- Internal inflatable silicone retention balloon with low-profile external bolster/button.
- Three access points on the external base:
- JEJUNAL: feeding into the small intestine.
- GASTRIC: decompression/venting/drainage (intended for low intermittent suction or gravity drainage).
- BAL: balloon inflation/deflation.
- One-way (anti-reflux) valves in JEJUNAL and GASTRIC ports that open when a MIC-KEY extension set is attached.
- Clearly marked gastric and jejunal ports; low-profile external head.
Connectivity and compatibility
- Available in ENFit and non-ENFit (catheter-tip) versions.
- Designed for use only with MIC-KEY extension sets; continuous/pump and bolus extension types are available.
- ENFit versions provide enteral-only connectivity; the port-to-extension interface uses the MIC-KEY SECUR-LOK locking mechanism.
Key features
- Weighted jejunal portion helps maintain position in the jejunum.
- Multiple distal exit ports (jejunal and commonly gastric) to support flow and help reduce clogging.
- Radiopaque stripe/sections for imaging visibility.
- Tapered distal tip to aid placement.
- No dedicated medication port; medications are administered per clinical direction via gastric or jejunal port using the appropriate extension set.
Materials and sterility
- Medical-grade silicone construction; not made with natural rubber latex.
- Sterile (gamma sterilized), single-use, prescription device.
Sizes and configuration options
- French sizes: 14 Fr, 16 Fr, 18 Fr, 22 Fr.
- Jejunal lengths: 15 cm, 22 cm, 30 cm, 45 cm (availability varies by French size).
- Stoma (shaft) lengths: approximately 1.0–7.0 cm in common increments (availability varies by size).
- Jejunal length is measured from the distal aspect of the retention balloon to the catheter tip.
Balloon inflation (use sterile/distilled water)
- For 15, 22, or 30 cm jejunal length: recommended 3 ml (maximum 5 ml).
- For 45 cm jejunal length: recommended 7 ml (maximum 10 ml).
Placement and clinical use
- Suitable for endoscopic or radiologic placement.
- Designed for clinical scenarios requiring jejunal feeding with concurrent gastric drainage/decompression.
Kit versions
- ENFit kit configurations include MIC-KEY ENFit extension sets (typically continuous/pump and bolus). Contents may vary by configuration/region.
