Description
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube is a skin-level, button-style device that provides long-term enteral access for pediatric and adult patients who require jejunal feeding while allowing gastric decompression or venting. A single device supports both functions via distinct gastric (G) and jejunal (J) lumens, secured internally by a water-inflated silicone balloon and externally by a low-profile bolster.
Key features
- Low-profile button design for discreet wear; extension sets detach when not in use.
- Medical-grade, high-clarity silicone; latex-free.
- Weighted, radiopaque jejunal segment to help maintain position and aid visualization; radiopaque stripe for imaging.
- Multiple, large jejunal exit ports designed to promote flow and reduce clogging.
- Jejunal segment engineered with high columnar strength to help maintain placement.
- Tapered distal tip to aid placement.
- Clearly labeled ports and one-way valves that open only when a MIC-KEY extension set is attached.
Ports and functions
- JEJUNAL port: primary feeding; medications per clinical direction.
- GASTRIC port: decompression/venting; medications per clinical direction.
- BAL port: balloon inflation/deflation.
- No dedicated medication port; medications are administered through the J or G port as directed.
Connectivity and compatibility
- Accessed using MIC-KEY extension sets; one extension type connects to both G and J ports.
- ENFit connectors on patient-access ends; locking mechanism secures the extension to the button.
- Available as tube-only or in kits with MIC-KEY ENFit extension sets (continuous and bolus options).
- Compatible with the FARRELL Decompression System for venting when clinically indicated.
Sizes and options
- French sizes: 14, 16, 18, 22.
- Jejunal lengths (size-dependent): approximately 15, 22, 30, 45 cm.
- Stoma length options: approximately 1.0 to 7.0 cm (availability varies by diameter and jejunal length).
Placement and replacement
- Placed endoscopically through a gastric stoma with the jejunal limb positioned beyond the pylorus.
- Not intended for at-home replacement.
Sterility and regulatory
- Sterile, gamma sterilized.
- Single-use, single patient.
- Prescription device (Rx only).
Use and maintenance notes
- Low-profile valves require a compatible MIC-KEY extension set to open for feeds, liquids, and medications.
- Do not rotate jejunal or gastric-jejunal tubes; rotation may torque and retract the tube toward the stomach.
- Balloon maintenance: inflate with sterile or distilled water only; check volume per IFU at recommended intervals; stabilize the tube when adding or removing balloon water.
- Medications: prefer liquid formulations; avoid thick preparations; do not crush enteric-coated tablets; if crushing is permitted, mix thoroughly with water; flush with water before and between medications; do not mix medications with formula.
