Description
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube Kit (ENFit) is a skin-level, double-lumen gastro-jejunostomy device designed to provide post-pyloric (jejunal) feeding while allowing simultaneous gastric decompression/venting. The distal limb resides in the jejunum, and the low-profile, “button” design supports comfort and discretion for pediatric and adult patients.
Intended use / Indications
- Enables jejunal feeding with a separate gastric lumen for decompression/venting.
- Common clinical scenarios: impaired gastric emptying or motility, aspiration risk, gastric outlet obstruction, severe GERD, or post-esophagectomy/gastrectomy when post-pyloric feeding with gastric drainage is required.
Design and ports
- Low-profile head with external bolster and an internal inflatable retention balloon.
- Three access points: JEJUNAL (feeding), GASTRIC (decompression/venting), and BAL (balloon inflation/deflation).
- JEJUNAL and GASTRIC ports feature one-way valves that open when MIC-KEY extension sets are connected.
- No dedicated medication port; medications may be administered via the jejunal or gastric lumen per clinical direction.
Key features
- Weighted jejunal segment to help maintain distal placement.
- Multiple jejunal exit ports for distributed flow.
- Radiopaque stripe/markings for imaging visibility; clearly labeled gastric and jejunal ports on the head.
- Tapered distal tip to aid placement.
- Medical-grade silicone construction; skin-level profile for comfort.
Connectivity and kit contents (ENFit)
- ENFit connectivity on the feeding set side; MIC-KEY extension sets mechanically lock to open the one-way valves.
- Typical kit components: MIC-KEY GJ tube; ENFit Continuous/Pump Extension Set (~12 in/30 cm); ENFit Bolus Extension Set (~12 in/30 cm); 35 mL ENFit syringe; 6 mL luer-slip syringe (balloon); patient care information; gauze pads.
Sizes and configurations
- French sizes: 14, 16, 18, 22 Fr.
- Jejunal lengths: 15, 22, 30, 45 cm (availability varies by configuration).
- Stoma lengths: approximately 1.0–7.0 cm in defined increments (availability varies by French size).
- Connector variants in the family include ENFit and non-ENFit; this kit is the ENFit version.
- Measurement note: jejunal length is measured from the distal aspect of the retention balloon to the catheter tip.
Balloon specifications
- Recommended fill volumes generally correlate with jejunal length: 3 mL (max 5 mL) for 15–30 cm J lengths; 7 mL (max 10 mL) for 45 cm J length. Refer to the device IFU for the specific tube’s recommended volume.
Materials, sterility, and use
- Medical-grade silicone; not made with natural rubber latex; not made with DEHP/DBP/BBP.
- Sterile (gamma sterilized); single-use; prescription only (Rx-only).
Regulatory and quality
- CE marked; sterilized by gamma radiation; manufacturer quality system compliant with ISO 13485.
Storage and shelf life
- Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and radiation.
- Typical shelf life: 2 years from date of manufacture.
Additional notes
- Initial placement may be performed endoscopically or radiologically per clinical practice. An introducer set may be used for initial placement but is not included in the standard ENFit kit.
