Description
Overview
A skin-level, low-profile trans-gastric jejunal feeding tube designed for simultaneous post-pyloric (jejunal) feeding and gastric decompression/venting. Suitable for pediatric and adult patients; prescription device (Rx only). The low-profile “button” design aims to improve comfort and discretion while providing reliable enteral access.
Design and key features
- External low-profile bolster with internal inflatable retention balloon
- Weighted jejunal limb to help maintain position within the jejunum
- Multiple jejunal exit ports to distribute feeding
- Tapered distal tip to aid placement; radiopaque stripe for imaging visibility
- One-way, anti-reflux valves in JEJUNAL and GASTRIC ports that open when a MIC-KEY extension set is attached
- No dedicated medication port; medications are delivered via the jejunal or gastric port per clinical direction
Ports
- JEJUNAL (J): delivers nutrition to the small intestine
- GASTRIC (G): decompression/venting of the stomach (via gravity drainage or low intermittent suction per orders)
- BAL: balloon inflation/deflation
Connectivity and compatibility (ENFit)
- ENFit connector type for feed set interface (this Kit)
- Use only MIC-KEY ENFit extension sets; do not introduce formula or medication directly into a valve without an extension set attached
- Extension sets available for continuous/pump feeding and for bolus feeding; keyed connectors with orientation marks; lock with approximately a 3/4-turn—do not turn past the stop
- Note: Some MIC-KEY GJ configurations exist with non-ENFit connectors; this Kit is the ENFit version
Sizes and specifications
- French sizes: 14 Fr, 16 Fr, 18 Fr, 22 Fr
- Jejunal lengths: 15 cm, 22 cm, 30 cm, 45 cm (availability may vary by French size)
- Stoma lengths: approximately 1.0 cm to 7.0 cm in various increments (configuration-dependent)
Balloon inflation guidelines
- Use only sterile or distilled water; do not overinflate
- Jejunal length 15/22/30 cm: recommended fill 3 mL (maximum 5 mL)
- Jejunal length 45 cm: recommended fill 7 mL (maximum 10 mL)
Placement
Placed through an existing gastrostomy with the distal limb positioned in the jejunum, typically under fluoroscopic/X-ray guidance using a guide wire in a hospital radiology setting.
Care and handling highlights
- Flush the feeding tube and extension sets before and after use per clinical orders to help prevent clogging
- Clean the external base and ports with warm water and mild soap; keep the stoma area clean and dry
- Do not rotate or turn the low-profile bolster/device
- Use only water-soluble lubricant on connectors as needed
- For decompression, use gravity drainage or low intermittent suction (avoid high continuous suction)
- Ensure the external base rests slightly above the skin (~1–2 mm); have fit rechecked if body weight or stoma length changes
- Inflate/deflate the balloon via the BAL port only and verify volume per the configuration above
Materials and sterility
- Medical-grade silicone; latex-free
- Sterile (gamma sterilized); single-use
