Description
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube is a skin-level, double-lumen device designed for pediatric and adult patients who require post-pyloric (jejunal) feeding with simultaneous gastric decompression or venting. It is placed through an existing gastric stoma, with the distal limb positioned in the jejunum, and features a low-profile, button-style head for discreet, skin-level access.
Intended Use
- Enables jejunal feeding while allowing concurrent gastric decompression/venting via separate lumens.
- Intended for use under clinical supervision in patients requiring post-pyloric nutrition.
Design and Ports
- Low-profile button head with an external bolster and an internal inflatable retention balloon.
- Three access points: JEJUNAL (feeding), GASTRIC (decompression/venting), and BAL (balloon inflation/deflation).
- One-way valves in JEJUNAL and GASTRIC ports open when a MIC-KEY extension set is attached; ports are clearly labeled.
- No dedicated medication port; medications may be administered via the jejunal or gastric port per clinical direction.
Connectivity
- ENFit connector standard (ISO 80369-3).
- Ports are accessed using MIC-KEY ENFit extension sets, with options for continuous or bolus feeding.
Key Features
- Tungsten-weighted jejunal section to help maintain position.
- Multiple jejunal exit ports for distribution of feeds.
- Radiopaque stripe for visibility under imaging.
- Tapered distal tip to aid placement.
- Low-profile, skin-level design with clearly marked gastric and jejunal ports.
Materials and Sterility
- Medical-grade silicone construction.
- Not made with natural rubber latex.
- Not made with DEHP, DBP, or BBP.
- Sterile (gamma sterilized); single-use; prescription device (Rx only).
Sizes and Options
- French sizes: 14, 16, 18, 22 Fr.
- Jejunal lengths: 15 cm, 22 cm, 30 cm, 45 cm (measured from the distal aspect of the retention balloon to the catheter tip).
- Stoma lengths: approximately 1.0–7.0 cm (availability varies by tube diameter).
Placement Considerations
- Suitable for endoscopic or radiologic placement.
- Weighted section and radiopaque stripe support verification and maintenance of position per institutional protocols.
- Use and maintenance should follow clinician judgment, product labeling, and facility guidelines.
