Description
Design and Indication
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube is a skin-level “button” enteral device placed through a gastric stoma with the distal limb positioned in the jejunum. It enables simultaneous jejunal feeding and gastric decompression/venting for pediatric and adult patients.
Placement and Retention
- Secured by an internal inflatable silicone balloon with a low-profile external bolster resting just above the skin.
- Suitable for endoscopic or radiologic placement and for replacement into a mature stoma.
- Jejunal length is measured from the distal aspect of the retention balloon to the catheter tip.
Ports and Flow
- Three labeled access points on the external bolster:
- JEJUNAL port: for feeding and medications per clinical direction.
- GASTRIC port: for decompression/venting and medications per clinical direction.
- BAL port: for balloon inflation/deflation.
- One-way/anti-reflux valves in the JEJUNAL and GASTRIC ports open when a MIC-KEY extension set is attached.
- No dedicated medication port.
Connectors and Accessories
- Available in ENFit and non-ENFit (catheter-tip) configurations, depending on model.
- Requires MIC-KEY GJ Extension Sets to access the JEJUNAL and GASTRIC ports; continuous/pump and bolus styles are available (approx. 12 in).
- Extension sets incorporate SECUR-LOK style connectors with orientation and locking features.
Key Design Features
- Low-profile button head with clearly marked ports.
- Tungsten-weighted jejunal limb to help maintain post-pyloric position; radiopaque stripe for imaging visibility.
- Multiple jejunal exit ports to distribute formula/distal flow.
- Tapered distal tip to aid placement.
Materials and Sterility
- Medical-grade silicone; not made with natural rubber latex.
- Not formulated with DEHP/DBP/BBP (per component materials specifications).
- Sterile, gamma-irradiated; single-use; prescription device (Rx only).
Sizes and Options
- Outer diameter (French): 14, 16, 18, 22 Fr.
- Stoma lengths: approximately 1.0 to 7.0 cm (availability varies by French size; offered in small increments).
- Jejunal lengths: 15, 22, 30, 45 cm (availability varies by configuration).
Balloon Fill Volumes
- For jejunal lengths 15, 22, or 30 cm: recommended 3 mL (maximum 5 mL).
- For jejunal length 45 cm: recommended 7 mL (maximum 10 mL).
- Use sterile or distilled water only; follow the Instructions for Use (IFU).
Kit Availability
Typical kit configurations may include: - MIC-KEY GJ Continuous Feed Extension Set (approx. 12 in). - MIC-KEY GJ Bolus Extension Set (approx. 12 in). - 35 mL syringe for priming/flushing (connector type varies by standard). - 6 mL Luer slip syringe for balloon inflation/deflation. - Patient use/care guide. (Stoma measuring device typically not included.)
Notes and Compatibility
- Designed to support simultaneous jejunal feeding and gastric decompression via gravity drainage or low intermittent suction per clinical guidance.
- Dimensions and option availability may vary within the stated ranges by configuration.
