Description
Overview and intended use
The MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube by Avanos is a skin-level enteral device designed for patients who require post-pyloric feeding while allowing simultaneous gastric decompression or venting. Placed through a gastric stoma with the distal limb positioned in the jejunum, it supports pediatric and adult patients who benefit from jejunal feeding with the option for stomach drainage.
Placement and retention
- Inserted through the abdomen; distal ends terminate in the stomach and jejunum.
- Internal water-inflated balloon provides retention; a low-profile external bolster sits at skin level.
- Not intended for at-home replacement; placement is an endoscopic procedure per clinical direction.
Ports and connectivity
- Three labeled external ports:
- JEJUNAL (J): feeding to the small intestine.
- GASTRIC (G): decompression/venting/drainage from the stomach.
- BAL: balloon inflation/deflation (water only).
- J and G ports feature one-way valves that open when a MIC-KEY extension set is attached.
- Compatible with MIC-KEY extension sets for continuous or bolus use; extensions attach for feeding/medication/fluids and detach when not in use.
- Available with ENFit connectors (enteral-only) and in non-ENFit (catheter tip) versions. Use MIC-KEY-branded extension sets for compatibility.
Design features
- Low-profile “button” form factor for discretion under clothing.
- Weighted jejunal limb to help maintain post-pyloric position.
- Multiple jejunal exit ports for distributed feeding.
- Radiopaque stripe for imaging visibility.
- Tapered distal tip to aid placement; clearly marked gastric and jejunal ports.
Sizes and configuration options
- French sizes (outer diameter): 14, 16, 18, 22 Fr.
- Jejunal lengths (size-dependent): 15 cm, 22 cm, 30 cm, 45 cm.
- Stoma lengths: approximately 1.0 cm to 7.0 cm (availability varies by tube diameter).
Materials and regulatory
- Medical-grade silicone; latex-free.
- Sterile, single-use device; prescription only (Rx).
Use and safety notes
- Use a feeding pump for jejunal feeds. Do not administer bolus or gravity feeds via the J port unless specifically directed by clinical guidance.
- Do not connect the J port to suction and do not check residuals from the J port.
- For gastric decompression, use gravity drainage or low intermittent suction; avoid continuous or high suction.
- BAL port is for water only. Do not fill with air, medications, or feeds; use an appropriate Luer syringe.
- Do not rotate GJ tubes; avoid kinking of the jejunal limb.
- Follow the product’s instructions for use for connection/disconnection, care, and replacement scheduling as directed by the clinical team.
