Description
The MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube by Avanos Medical is a skin-level enteral access device placed through a gastric stoma with the distal limb positioned in the jejunum. It supports simultaneous jejunal feeding and gastric decompression/venting, offering an option when post-pyloric feeding is required and/or gastric decompression is indicated. Use is appropriate for pediatric and adult patients under clinical direction.
Design and port functions
- Low-profile external bolster with an internal inflatable retention balloon.
- Three labeled access points on the external bolster:
- JEJUNAL (J): for delivery of nutrition into the jejunum; one-way valve opens when a compatible MIC-KEY extension set is attached.
- GASTRIC (G): for gastric decompression/venting or drainage via gravity or low intermittent suction; one-way valve opens with a MIC-KEY extension set.
- BAL: for balloon inflation/deflation using sterile or distilled water.
- No dedicated medication port; medications are administered via the J or G port as directed by the clinician.
Connectivity and accessories
- Available with ENFit enteral-only connectivity; some configurations are offered with legacy Catheter Tip connectors (availability varies).
- Uses MIC-KEY extension sets (continuous/pump and bolus styles) to access the J and G ports; valves remain closed when extensions are not attached.
Key features
- Weighted jejunal segment to help maintain distal placement.
- Multiple jejunal exit ports for distributed feeding.
- Radiopaque stripe to aid visibility under imaging.
- Tapered distal tip to assist passage during placement.
- Clearly labeled J and G ports and a low-profile, skin-level design for discretion and comfort.
Materials and sterility
- Medical-grade silicone; latex-free.
- Sterile (gamma sterilized); single-use.
- Prescription device (Rx only).
Sizes and options
- French sizes: 14 Fr, 16 Fr, 18 Fr, 22 Fr.
- Jejunal limb lengths: 15 cm, 22 cm, 30 cm, 45 cm.
- Stoma lengths: approximately 1.0 cm to 7.0 cm.
- Availability varies by configuration.
Placement and replacement considerations
- Placed through a gastric stoma with the distal limb advanced into the jejunum, typically under endoscopic or radiologic guidance.
- Suitable for feeding into the jejunum while enabling gastric venting or drainage as clinically prescribed.
- Not intended for at-home replacement; replacement timing is determined by the clinician in accordance with local practice and the device instructions for use.
