Description
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube is a skin-level, button-style device designed for pediatric and adult patients who require post-pyloric (jejunal) feeding while allowing simultaneous gastric decompression or venting. Placed through a gastric stoma, the distal limb resides in the jejunum to support delivery of nutrition beyond the pylorus while the gastric lumen manages drainage as ordered.
Design and ports
- Low-profile button head with external bolster and an internal inflatable silicone balloon for retention.
- Three access points: JEJUNAL (feeding), GASTRIC (decompression/venting), and BAL (balloon inflation/deflation).
- JEJUNAL and GASTRIC ports include one-way valves that open when a MIC-KEY Extension Set is attached.
- No dedicated medication port; medications are administered via the jejunal or gastric port per clinical direction.
Connectivity and extension sets
- Available in ENFit connector configuration; catheter-tip connector variants are also offered (availability depends on configuration).
- Requires MIC-KEY Extension Sets to access ports; extension sets are available for continuous or bolus feeding and use a SECUR-LOK/Safety Ring design for secure, enteral-only connections.
- Kit variants are available that include ENFit extension sets.
Key features
- Weighted jejunal portion helps maintain placement in the small intestine.
- Multiple jejunal exit ports support feeding distribution.
- Radiopaque stripe for visualization under imaging.
- Tapered distal tip to aid placement.
- Clearly marked gastric and jejunal ports for identification at the bedside.
Materials and sterility
- Medical-grade silicone; latex-free.
- Sterile (gamma sterilized).
- Single-use; prescription device (Rx only).
Sizes and options
- Outer diameters (Fr): 14, 16, 18, 22.
- Jejunal limb lengths (cm): 15, 22, 30, 45 (availability varies by diameter).
- Stoma tract lengths (cm): approximately 1.0 to 7.0 in defined increments (availability varies by diameter).
Use and operation notes
- Supports jejunal feeding while allowing gastric decompression via low intermittent suction or gravity, as ordered.
- Inflate the retention balloon with sterile or distilled water per the instructions for use (IFU), and stabilize the tube during inflation and deflation.
- Do not rotate GJ tubes, as rotation can retract the jejunal limb and affect placement.
