Description
A low-profile, skin-level button, the Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube is a double-lumen enteral device that enables simultaneous jejunal feeding and gastric decompression/drainage. It is intended for pediatric and adult patients who require post-pyloric nutrition while allowing gastric venting. The device is secured with an internal inflatable, water-filled retention balloon and a low-profile external bolster for stability and a discreet profile.
Design and Ports
- Three external access points: JEJUNAL (feeding to the small intestine), GASTRIC (decompression/drainage via low intermittent suction or gravity), and BAL (balloon inflation/deflation).
- One-way valves in the JEJUNAL and GASTRIC ports open when a MIC-KEY Extension Set is attached to help reduce backflow.
- No dedicated medication port; medications may be administered via the gastric or jejunal port per clinical direction.
Connectivity and Compatibility
- Available with ENFit connectors; select legacy catheter-tip versions may be provided depending on model.
- Uses detachable MIC-KEY Extension Sets for continuous/pump or bolus feeding. Extensions can be removed when not in use for a discreet, skin-level button.
Key Features
- Weighted jejunal segment (tungsten) to help maintain distal placement.
- Radiopaque stripe/weighting for visibility under imaging.
- Tapered distal tip with multiple jejunal exit ports.
- Clearly marked JEJUNAL and GASTRIC ports for line identification.
- Medical-grade silicone; not made with natural rubber latex; not formulated with DEHP, DBP, or BBP.
- Single-use, gamma sterilized; prescription only (Rx).
Sizes and Options
- French sizes: 14, 16, 18, 22 Fr.
- Jejunal lengths: 15, 22, 30, 45 cm.
- Stoma lengths: approximately 1.0–7.0 cm in multiple increments.
- Jejunal length is measured from the distal aspect of the retention balloon to the catheter tip.
Placement and Replacement
- Placed endoscopically or radiologically through a gastric stoma with the distal limb positioned in the jejunum.
- Replacement/changes are performed by qualified clinicians; not intended for at-home replacement.
Balloon and Retention
- Inflate the retention balloon with sterile or distilled water only.
- Typical balloon fill guidance:
- 3 mL recommended (max 5 mL) for 15, 22, or 30 cm jejunal lengths.
- 7 mL recommended (max 10 mL) for 45 cm jejunal length.
Accessories and Resources
- Compatible with MIC-KEY Extension Sets for continuous and bolus use.
- Manufacturer Instructions for Use and quick-start/maintenance guides are available.
