Description
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric–Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube is a skin-level, double‑lumen device designed for simultaneous jejunal feeding and gastric decompression through a mature gastric stoma. A low-profile external bolster and an internal inflatable balloon help secure placement, while clearly marked G and J ports support correct use. The weighted jejunal segment, radiopaque stripe, and tapered distal tip aid placement and visualization. This sterile, single-use device is suitable for pediatric and adult patients when jejunal feeding and gastric venting are clinically indicated.
Intended Use/Indication
- For patients requiring concurrent jejunal feeding and gastric decompression/venting.
- Appropriate for pediatric and adult populations per clinical direction.
Ports and Functions
- JEJUNAL (J) port: Delivers formula into the small intestine; one-way valve opens when a MIC-KEY Extension Set is attached.
- GASTRIC (G) port: For gastric venting/decompression via low intermittent suction or gravity; one-way valve opens with a MIC-KEY Extension Set.
- BAL port: Used to inflate/deflate the internal retention balloon.
Design and Features
- Low-profile “button” form factor with clearly marked G and J ports.
- Weighted jejunal segment with radiopaque stripe to assist maintenance of placement and imaging.
- Multiple jejunal exit ports for distributed formula delivery.
- Tapered distal tip to aid passage.
- No dedicated medication port; medications may be administered via G or J port per clinical direction.
Connectivity and Compatibility
- Available with ENFit connectivity or non‑ENFit catheter‑tip feed set connectivity (configuration-dependent).
- Compatible with MIC-KEY Extension Sets only; ENFit configurations include ENFit extension sets (continuous/pump and bolus).
- Extension sets feature twist‑to‑lock (SECUR‑LOK) connectors with alignment marks.
Materials and Sterility
- Medical‑grade silicone; not made with natural rubber latex.
- Sterile (gamma sterilized); single-use; prescription device (Rx only, where applicable).
Sizes and Options
- Outer diameter (French): 14, 16, 18, 22 Fr.
- Jejunal limb lengths: 15, 22, 30, 45 cm (availability varies by French size).
- Stoma lengths: approximately 1.0–7.0 cm across the range (availability varies by French size).
- Jejunal length is measured from the distal aspect of the retention balloon to the catheter tip.
Balloon Retention
- Inflatable silicone balloon accessed via BAL port; fill with sterile/distilled water only.
- Recommended fill volumes: 3 ml (max 5 ml) for 15/22/30 cm jejunal lengths; 7 ml (max 10 ml) for 45 cm.
Kit Contents (configuration-dependent)
- MIC-KEY Low-Profile GJ feeding tube.
- MIC-KEY extension sets: one continuous/pump-feed set (~12 in) and one bolus set (~12 in).
- 35 ml syringe (flushing/priming) and 6 ml Luer Slip syringe (balloon inflation).
- Patient Use & Care Guide.
- Stoma measuring device not included.
Use Notes
- G port intended for low intermittent suction or gravity drainage per clinical direction.
- Access G and J ports using only MIC-KEY extension sets; one-way valves open upon proper connection.
