Description
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube is a skin-level, button-style, dual-lumen enteral device placed through a gastric stoma with the distal limb positioned in the jejunum. It supports simultaneous jejunal feeding and gastric decompression/venting for pediatric and adult patients who require post-pyloric nutrition while allowing gastric decompression. The external low-profile bolster sits at skin level, and an internal inflatable silicone balloon provides retention. A weighted jejunal segment with high columnar strength and a tapered distal tip aid advancement and help maintain position.
Design and ports
- Three access points on the external base: JEJUNAL port (feeding), GASTRIC port (decompression/venting), BAL port (balloon inflation/deflation).
- One-way valves in the jejunal and gastric ports open when a MIC-KEY extension set is attached.
- Clearly marked ports; no dedicated medication port (medications administered via jejunal or gastric port per clinical direction).
- Multiple exit ports across gastric and jejunal limbs promote flow and help minimize clogging.
- Radiopaque stripe along the tube and radiopaque weighted jejunal segment support confirmatory imaging.
Connectivity and accessories
- Requires MIC-KEY extension sets with Secur-Lok locking mechanism at the tube interface.
- ENFit connection via MIC-KEY ENFit extension sets; continuous and bolus extension options are available.
Materials and sterility
- Medical-grade, high-clarity silicone; latex-free.
- Sterile (gamma sterilized); single-use; prescription device (Rx only).
Sizing and options
- French sizes: 14 Fr, 16 Fr, 18 Fr, 22 Fr.
- Jejunal limb lengths: 15, 22, 30, 45 cm.
- Size availability by diameter: 14/16 Fr = 15–45 cm; 18 Fr = 22–45 cm; 22 Fr = 45 cm only.
- Stoma (shaft) lengths: 14 Fr = 1.0–7.0 cm; 16 Fr = 1.0–7.0 cm; 18 Fr = 1.2–7.0 cm; 22 Fr = 1.5–5.5 cm.
Balloon specifications
- Recommended fill volumes:
- For 15, 22, or 30 cm jejunal length tubes: 3 mL (maximum 5 mL).
- For 45 cm jejunal length tubes: 7 mL (maximum 10 mL).
- Use sterile or distilled water only for balloon inflation.
Imaging and placement support
- Radiopaque stripe and radiopaque weighted jejunal segment facilitate visualization for confirmatory imaging.
Kits
- Available as device-only and as kits that include MIC-KEY ENFit extension sets (continuous and/or bolus).
