Description
The MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube by Avanos is a skin-level enteral access device designed to support simultaneous jejunal feeding and gastric decompression/venting in pediatric and adult patients. Its low-profile “button” configuration sits at the skin surface to help minimize external length while providing secure access for ongoing nutritional therapy and gastric management.
Intended use
- Provides gastro-jejunal access for continuous or bolus jejunal feeding while allowing gastric decompression/venting as clinically directed.
- Suitable for patients requiring post-pyloric feeding with concurrent gastric drainage.
Design and ports
- Low-profile external bolster with an internal inflatable retention balloon.
- Three clearly labeled, color-coded access points: JEJUNAL (feeding), GASTRIC (decompression/venting), and BAL (balloon inflation/deflation).
- JEJUNAL and GASTRIC ports incorporate one-way valves that open when a MIC-KEY GJ extension set is attached.
- No dedicated medication port; medications are administered via the jejunal or gastric port per clinical direction.
Connectivity and accessories
- Available with ENFit connectors; non-ENFit (catheter tip) configurations also offered.
- Compatible with MIC-KEY GJ extension sets (bolus and continuous); extension sets are standardized across tube sizes and are often included in tube kits.
Key features
- Weighted jejunal portion helps maintain distal position within the small intestine.
- Multiple jejunal exit ports support distribution of enteral formula.
- Radiopaque elements (e.g., stripe/weighted segment) aid imaging confirmation of position.
- Tapered distal tip to assist placement.
- Balloon-retained design; inflate/deflate the internal balloon via the BAL port using sterile or distilled water.
Materials, sterility, and regulatory
- Constructed from medical-grade silicone; latex-free.
- Supplied sterile (gamma sterilized).
- Single-use; prescription device (Rx only).
Sizes and configuration options
- French sizes: 14, 16, 18, 22 Fr.
- Jejunal lengths: 15, 22, 30, 45 cm.
- Stoma length options: approximately 1.0–7.0 cm (availability varies by tube diameter).
This configuration set supports a consistent, low-profile interface with port clarity and standardized accessories to streamline enteral feeding and gastric management workflows.
