Description
Overview
Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube Kit (ENFit) enables simultaneous post-pyloric enteral feeding and gastric decompression in pediatric and adult patients. Its skin-level “button” profile is designed to support comfort, discretion, and ease of care while maintaining separate lumens for jejunal feeding and gastric venting.
Design and retention
- Low-profile external bolster with internal inflatable silicone retention balloon
- Double-lumen construction: distinct jejunal feeding and gastric drainage pathways
- Tungsten-weighted jejunal segment to help maintain jejunal placement
- Multiple jejunal exit ports for distributed feeding
- Radiopaque stripe to aid imaging/placement verification
- Tapered distal tip to assist advancement
- Clearly labeled gastric and jejunal ports
Ports and functions
- JEJUNAL port: enteral feeding into the small intestine; one-way valve opens when a MIC-KEY extension set is attached
- GASTRIC port: decompression/venting via low intermittent suction or gravity drainage; one-way valve opens when an extension set is attached
- BAL port: inflation/deflation of the retention balloon
- No dedicated medication port; medications are administered via jejunal or gastric port per clinical direction
Connectivity and kit contents
- ENFit enteral-only patient-side connectors
- Uses MIC-KEY Extension Sets with keyed SECUR-LOK interface at the tube; kit includes right-angle (continuous) and straight (bolus) ENFit extension sets
Materials, sterility, and use
- Medical-grade silicone; not made with natural rubber latex
- Not made with DEHP, DBP, or BBP
- Sterile (gamma sterilized); single-use only, do not reprocess or re-sterilize
- Prescription device (Rx only); typical shelf life 2 years from date of manufacture
Size and configuration options
- French sizes: 14, 16, 18, 22 Fr
- Jejunal limb lengths: 15, 22, 30, 45 cm (availability varies by Fr size)
- Stoma tract lengths: approximately 1.0–7.0 cm (e.g., 1.0 to 7.0 in listed increments; not all combinations exist)
- Jejunal length is measured from the distal aspect of the retention balloon to the catheter tip
Placement and use context
- Placed through a gastric stoma with the distal limb positioned in the jejunum
- Appropriate for endoscopic or radiologic placement; may be used as an initial tube per protocol or as a replacement in a mature tract
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and radiation
Clinical considerations
- Indicated when both jejunal feeding and gastric decompression are needed, such as impaired gastric emptying, gastric outlet obstruction, severe GERD with aspiration risk, or post-gastrectomy/esophagectomy scenarios
- Contraindications include, but are not limited to, ascites, colonic interposition, portal hypertension, peritonitis, and morbid obesity
- Refer to the device Instructions for Use (IFU) for complete placement instructions, warnings, and contraindications
