Description
Overview
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastric-Jejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube is a button-style, skin-level enteral device placed through a gastric stoma with the distal limb positioned in the jejunum. It is intended for pediatric and adult patients who require post-pyloric (jejunal) feeding while allowing simultaneous gastric decompression or venting through a separate lumen.
Design and ports
- Low-profile external button with internal inflatable balloon retention.
- Three ports:
- JEJUNAL: for feeding into the small intestine.
- GASTRIC: for decompression/venting via gravity or low intermittent suction (do not use continuous or high intermittent suction).
- BAL: balloon inflation/deflation.
- JEJUNAL and GASTRIC ports have one-way/anti-reflux valves that open when a MIC-KEY extension set is attached.
- No dedicated medication port; medications are delivered via the jejunal or gastric port as directed clinically.
Connectivity and compatibility
- Uses MIC-KEY extension sets with lock-and-key connectors and black orientation lines; connector secures with approximately a 3/4 clockwise turn.
- Available in ENFit and Catheter Tip (non-ENFit) variants. The Kit variant uses ENFit and includes ENFit extension sets.
Key features
- Weighted jejunal portion helps maintain jejunal placement.
- Multiple jejunal exit ports distribute feeding.
- Radiopaque stripe for imaging visibility.
- Tapered distal tip to aid placement.
- Clearly marked JEJUNAL and GASTRIC ports.
Materials and regulatory
- Medical-grade silicone; latex-free.
- Sterile (gamma-sterilized); single-use.
- Prescription device (Rx only).
Sizes and options
- French sizes: 14, 16, 18, 22.
- Jejunal lengths (cm): 15, 22, 30, 45.

Balloon inflation guidance
- Inflate the balloon with sterile or distilled water only.
- Recommended fill volumes:
- Jejunal lengths 15/22/30 cm: 3 ml (maximum 5 ml).
- Jejunal length 45 cm: 7 ml (maximum 10 ml).
Care and handling highlights
- Position the external base to rest slightly above the skin (~1–2 mm); do not rotate the external bolster.
- Use only water‑soluble lubricant as needed.
- Use MIC-KEY extension sets only; keep the connector locked during feeding.
- Flush the tube and extension sets before and after each use; keep valves and ports clean.
- Do not insert medications or formula directly into the feeding port valve; attach an appropriate extension set first.
