Description

The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Balloon Gastrostomy Button, 18 Fr, is a skin-level, balloon-retained gastrostomy tube designed for enteral delivery of nutrition and medications and for gastric decompression. Intended for patients who cannot tolerate oral feeding and require long-term gastric access, it may be placed percutaneously under fluoroscopic, laparoscopic, or endoscopic guidance, or used as a replacement device in a mature stoma tract. Suitable for pediatric through adult patients. Enteral use only.

Key design features

• Low-profile “button” external base sits at skin level to help reduce snagging and improve discretion.
• Internal inflatable silicone retention balloon.
• Proximal anti-reflux valve in the feeding port to help minimize backflow.
• SECUR-LOK connector interface on the button with alignment marks for secure engagement of extension sets.
• ENFit (ISO 80369-3) connectors on extension sets; continuous set with Y-connector/medication port, bolus set with straight connector.
• Distal tip tapered and recessed at recommended fill volume; radiopaque stripe for visualization on imaging.

Materials and safety

• High-clarity, medical‑grade silicone tube; not made with natural rubber latex or DEHP.
• Component materials include polyether imide, polycarbonate, barium sulfate (radiopacity), and a stainless steel spring.
• Extension sets: PVC (citrate plasticizer) and ABS; clamp polypropylene.

Sizes and balloon fill

• French sizes available: 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24 Fr.
• Discrete stoma lengths (cm): 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 1.7, 2.0, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0; 18 Fr available in 0.8–5.0 cm.
• Balloon fill with sterile or distilled water only: 14–24 Fr (including 18 Fr) recommended 5 mL, maximum 10 mL.

• Regional note: US kits include an insertion stylet and water‑soluble lubricant; AU kits do not. Stoma measuring device available separately.

Sterility and regulatory

• Supplied sterile; EtO sterilized; prescription use (Rx only). CE marked (BSI 2797), Class IIb. Manufactured in an ISO 13485–compliant facility in Mexico.

Compatibility and notes

• Use MIC-KEY–branded extension sets with the SECUR-LOK interface to help minimize leaks and accidental disconnects.
• Gastric button (G-tube) only; no jejunal port or weighted jejunal segment (not a GJ device).

Storage and shelf life

• Store in a cool, dry location away from heat and radiation. Shelf life: 2 years from date of manufacture.
