Description
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Balloon Gastrostomy Feeding Tube (G-button) with ENFit Extension Sets is a skin-level device designed for long-term enteral access to the stomach for feeding, medication delivery, and gastric decompression (Rx only). It features a low-profile button that rests at the skin surface and an internal silicone balloon that secures the tube within the stomach. Placement may be performed percutaneously under fluoroscopic, laparoscopic, or endoscopic guidance, or the device may be used as a replacement through an established stoma tract.
Key design and materials
- Low-profile, skin-level “button” design to reduce external profile.
- Internal silicone balloon for gastric retention.
- Feeding port with anti-reflux valve that remains closed when no extension set is attached.
- Radiopaque stripe for visualization under imaging.
- High-clarity, medical-grade silicone construction; natural rubber latex-free.
- Sterile via ethylene oxide; single use only (do not reuse, reprocess, or resterilize).
Connectors and compatibility
- ENFit (ISO 80369-3) enteral connections.
- Access the tube only with MIC-KEY Extension Sets featuring a SECUR-LOK twist-to-lock patient-end connector.
- Continuous-feed extension set includes a Y-connector with a dedicated medication port and tubing clamp; bolus type also available.
- Extension sets are non-sterile, reusable for a single patient, and free of natural rubber latex and DEHP.
Sizes and configuration options
- French sizes: 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24 Fr.
- Stoma lengths (cm): 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 1.7, 2.0, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0.
- Example variants include 20 Fr × 3.5 cm and 20 Fr × 4.0 cm; size and length are selected per patient measurement.
Balloon inflation (sterile/distilled water only)
- 12 Fr: recommended 3 mL; maximum 5 mL.
- 14–24 Fr: recommended 5 mL; maximum 10 mL.
- Do not use air, saline, or contrast media to inflate the balloon.
MRI safety
- MR Conditional at 1.5 T and 3 T.
- Maximum spatial field gradient: 19,060 G/cm (1.96 T/m) or less.
- Whole-body SAR: < 2 W/kg (Normal Operating Mode).
- Expected temperature rise: < 1.3 °C after 15 minutes of continuous scanning.
- Image artifact: < 45 mm at 3 T (gradient echo sequence).
Handling notes
- Access only via MIC-KEY Extension Sets; do not insert a syringe directly into the feeding port.
- Follow the Instructions for Use for flushing, routine balloon volume checks, and site care.
Important clarification
- This is the MIC-KEY G-tube configuration. It does not include a jejunal lumen/port and does not support simultaneous jejunal feeding; references to GJ devices do not apply.
