Description
The MIC-KEY low-profile balloon gastrostomy button is a skin-level, balloon-retained G-tube designed for long-term enteral nutrition, medication delivery, and gastric venting/decompression in pediatric and adult patients (prescription use; region dependent). Its button-style profile minimizes snagging and clothing interference while providing secure access to the stomach through compatible MIC-KEY extension sets with ENFit connectors.
Design and materials
- Low-profile, skin-level design to reduce pull and external bulk
- Internal inflatable retention balloon
- High-clarity, medical-grade silicone construction; not made with natural rubber latex
- Radiopaque stripe for visualization on imaging
- Feeding port includes an anti-reflux valve that remains closed when no extension is attached
Connector system and compatibility
- Patient-end: MIC-KEY SECUR-LOK lock-and-key mechanism with alignment marks; connect only MIC-KEY extension sets
- Feeding-side on extension sets: ENFit (ISO 80369-3) connectors
- Extension sets feature a Y-connector with a dedicated medication port and integrated clamp
- G-tube configuration only; no jejunal port
Standard kit contents (ENFit configuration)
- MIC-KEY low-profile G-tube
- Two ENFit extension sets: Continuous Feed (~12 in/30 cm) and Bolus Feed (~12 in/30 cm), both with SECUR-LOK patient-end connectors
- 6 mL luer slip syringe (for balloon inflation/deflation)
- 35 mL ENFit enteral syringe
- Gauze pad
- Insertion stylet and water-soluble lubricant where supplied (US only)
Sizes and options
- French sizes: 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24 Fr
- Stoma lengths (cm): 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 1.7, 2.0, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0
- Example variants: 14 Fr (e.g., 3.0 cm), 18 Fr (0.8–5.0 cm), 20 Fr (e.g., 3.5 cm)
Balloon inflation (use sterile/distilled water only)
- 12 Fr: 3 mL recommended (maximum 5 mL)
- 14–24 Fr: 5 mL recommended (maximum 10 mL)
Placement and replacement
- May be placed percutaneously under fluoroscopic, laparoscopic, or endoscopic guidance
- Suitable as a replacement device via an established stoma tract
Sterility and reuse
- G-tube: sterile (ethylene oxide); single-use
- Extension sets: non-sterile; reusable for a single patient; latex-free and DEHP-free
MRI safety
- MR Conditional at 1.5 T and 3 T; whole-body SAR <2 W/kg (Normal Operating Mode)
- Expected temperature rise <1.3 °C after 15 minutes
- Image artifact typically <45 mm at 3 T (gradient echo)
Usage notes
- Flush through the extension set to avoid damaging the anti-reflux valve in the feeding port
- Supports gastric venting/decompression in addition to feeding
- Statements about weighted jejunal portions or separate jejunal ports apply to GJ devices and do not apply to this G-tube
- Use per clinician direction and institutional protocol; prescription-use device (region dependent)
