Description
Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Balloon Gastrostomy (G) Button is a skin-level feeding tube (“button”) for long-term enteral nutrition, medication delivery, and gastric decompression/venting. The internal inflatable silicone balloon retains the device while the low-profile external base sits flush at skin level. MIC-KEY ENFit Extension Sets interface the button with ENFit syringes, feeding sets, and pumps.
Intended Use and Patient Selection
- For patients who cannot meet nutritional needs orally and require sustained enteral access; also suitable for medication administration and venting as clinically directed.
- Typical placement: percutaneous under fluoroscopic, laparoscopic, or endoscopic guidance; may replace an established stoma tract device.
- Contraindications include (not limited to): ascites, colonic interposition, portal hypertension, peritonitis, morbid obesity.
Key Features (G-tube)
- Low-profile external button with port cover; radiopaque shaft stripe for imaging.
- Balloon-retained design; anti-reflux valve in feeding port (keep closed when not in use).
- Sterile (EtO), single-use, Rx only; not made with natural rubber latex; not made with DEHP; do not resterilize; do not use if package is damaged.
Connectors and Compatibility
- Tube-to-extension: MIC-KEY SECUR-LOK connector with alignment marks; engage until stop—do not over-rotate.
- Patient/caregiver interface: ENFit connectors are on the extension sets (for ENFit syringes and feeding sets).
- Use only MIC-KEY Extension Sets with MIC-KEY buttons; do not connect to non-enteral/IV systems.
Kit Contents (ENFit configuration)
- MIC-KEY Low-Profile G Button (balloon valve, extension-set port/cover, external base).
- Two MIC-KEY ENFit Extension Sets:
- Continuous Feed Set (~12 in): SECUR-LOK right-angle connector; Y-port with dedicated medication port and caps.
- Bolus Feed Set (~12 in): SECUR-LOK straight connector; feeding/medication port with cap.
- 6 mL Luer slip syringe (balloon inflation/deflation) and 35 mL ENFit enteral syringe.
- Gauze pads; MIC-KEY insertion stylet; water‑soluble lubricant (availability may vary by region). Stoma measuring device not included.
Sizes and Balloon Fill
- French sizes: 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24 Fr; stoma lengths typically 0.8–5.0 cm (various increments).
- Balloon inflation with sterile/distilled water only (no air, saline, or contrast): 12 Fr: 3 mL recommended (max 5 mL); 14–24 Fr: 5 mL recommended (max 10 mL).
MRI Safety (MR Conditional)
- MR Conditional at 1.5 T and 3 T with whole-body averaged SAR < 2 W/kg (Normal Operating Mode).
- Expected max temperature rise < 1.3 °C after 15 minutes; artifact may extend < 45 mm on 3 T gradient echo.
Care and Maintenance
- Flush only via an attached MIC-KEY Extension Set; do not insert a syringe directly into the button port. Flush with water every 4–6 hours during continuous feeds; before/after feeds and meds; or at least every 8 hours if not in use. Avoid acidic liquids for flushing.
- Balloon: check weekly and maintain prescribed volume with sterile/distilled water; typical silicone balloon life ~1–8 months, depending on care and gastric conditions.
- Extension sets: clean after each use with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly; replace about every two weeks or per protocol. Non-sterile; reusable for a single patient; not made with natural rubber latex; commonly DEHP-free.
- Occlusion: attempt warm water push–pull via the extension set; do not use soda/juice/enzymes or insert objects.
- Removal/replacement per clinician direction; bedside replacement may be appropriate in established tracts.
Critical Cautions
- For enteral use only. Do not reuse, reprocess, or resterilize the G-tube.
- Use only water‑soluble lubricant; avoid mineral oil or petroleum jelly.
- Do not fill the balloon with medications; do not inject contrast into the balloon.
- Protect the anti‑reflux valve; keep closed when not in use.
