Description
A skin-level, low-profile gastrostomy button designed for long-term enteral nutrition, medication delivery, and gastric decompression/venting. The MIC-KEY Low-Profile Balloon Gastrostomy (G) Button features a discreet external profile and an internal inflatable retention balloon for secure placement. Configuration shown: 16 Fr outer diameter; 2.5 cm stoma length. Rx only.
Indications and Placement
- For patients who cannot tolerate oral intake and are at low risk for aspiration.
- Can be placed percutaneously under fluoroscopic, laparoscopic, or endoscopic guidance.
- Suitable as a replacement device via a mature stoma tract.
Design and Materials
- Single gastric lumen/port (not a GJ device; no jejunal port).
- Feeding port includes an anti-reflux valve that remains closed when no extension set is attached.
- Medical-grade silicone body with radiopaque stripe for visualization.
- Sterile device (ethylene oxide sterilized); single-patient use.
- Not made with natural rubber latex; not made with DEHP.
Connectors and Compatibility
- Patient-end interface: MIC-KEY SECUR-LOK mechanism; use only MIC-KEY extension sets to correctly open/close the valve and help reduce leakage.
- Feeding side: ENFit connectors on compatible extension sets; Y-connector includes a dedicated medication port.
Extension Sets (Included/Compatible)
- Continuous feed extension set: typically 12 in (30 cm), SECUR-LOK right-angle patient end, two-port Y with ENFit feeding and medication ports, tubing clamp.
- Bolus extension set: typically 12 in (30 cm), ENFit feeding connector, SECUR-LOK straight (or right-angle per set), clamp.
- Other lengths available separately (e.g., 24 in/60 cm continuous feed).
- Extension sets are non-sterile, reusable for a single patient, and not made with natural rubber latex; clean after each use and replace about every two weeks per IFU.
Use and Care Highlights
- Connecting: align black marks on the extension set and feeding port, insert, then turn clockwise until resistance; keep locked during feeding.
- Disconnecting: turn counter-clockwise until marks align; detach and cap the port when not in use.
- Suitable for continuous and bolus feeding and medication administration via extension set ports.
- Flush the tube/extension sets before and after use to help prevent clogging.
- Site care: clean skin daily with mild soap and water; rotate the tube 360° plus a quarter turn during cleaning; external base should rest just above the skin.
- Balloon maintenance: check balloon volume per IFU; underfilling can lead to dislodgement.
Sizing and Balloon Fill
- Available sizes: 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24 Fr; stoma lengths approximately 0.8–5.0 cm (availability varies by French size).
- Balloon fill guidance (sterile or distilled water only): 12 Fr: 3 mL (max 5 mL); 14–24 Fr: 5 mL (max 10 mL).
