Description
The MIC-KEY Low-Profile Balloon Gastrostomy Button (G‑tube) by Avanos Medical is a skin-level, balloon-retained device for long-term enteral nutrition, medication delivery, and/or gastric decompression in pediatric through adult patients. It may be placed percutaneously under fluoroscopic, laparoscopic, or endoscopic guidance, or used as a replacement through a mature stoma tract.
Indications and Use
- For patients requiring long-term enteral feeding who cannot tolerate oral intake.
- Suitable when aspiration risk is low and when gastric decompression or direct gastric medication delivery is indicated.
Design and Features
- Low-profile, discreet “button” to help reduce snagging and interference with clothing.
- Internal inflatable retention balloon.
- Anti‑reflux valve in the feeding port; valve opens when an extension set is attached. Do not insert formula or medications directly into the valve.
- External base sits just above the skin and allows rotation during routine care.
- Recessed distal tip and radiopaque stripe for visualization during placement.
Connectors and Compatibility
- Feeding-side ENFit connections via the included extension sets; an ENFit Y‑connector provides a dedicated medication port.
- MIC‑KEY SECUR‑LOK right‑angle patient‑end interface with locking mechanism to help reduce leaks and accidental disconnects and to protect the anti‑reflux valve.
- Use only MIC‑KEY extension sets with the MIC‑KEY G feeding port. Note: Legacy catheter‑tip versions (separate models) do not provide a medication port.
Materials and Sterility
- High‑clarity, medical‑grade silicone construction; natural rubber latex‑free.
- Device is supplied sterile (ethylene oxide). Single use for the tube.
- MIC‑KEY extension sets are reusable for a single patient; latex‑free and DEHP‑free when supplied separately.
Sizes and Balloon Inflation
- French sizes: 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24 Fr.
- Stoma lengths (cm): 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 1.7, 2.0, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 (availability varies by French size).
- Balloon fill (sterile/distilled water only):
- 12 Fr: 3 mL recommended; 5 mL maximum.
- 14–24 Fr: 5 mL recommended; 10 mL maximum. Do not overinflate.
