Description

The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Balloon Gastrostomy (G) Feeding Tube/Button provides skin-level enteral access for pediatric and adult patients who require long-term nutritional support, medication delivery, or gastric decompression and are at low risk for aspiration. Its low-profile button is designed to be unobtrusive under clothing and pairs with ENFit extension sets for bolus or continuous feeding.

Indications and Placement

• Indicated for patients unable to tolerate oral intake and for direct gastric access for feeding or medications, or for decompression.
• May be placed percutaneously under fluoroscopic, laparoscopic, or endoscopic guidance; also suitable as a replacement device through a mature stoma tract.

• Low-profile, skin-level button with inflatable internal retention balloon.
• Anti-reflux valve within the feeding port that remains closed when no extension set is attached.
• Recessed, tapered distal tip and radiopaque (barium sulfate) stripe for visualization.

Materials and Safety

• High-clarity medical-grade silicone tube; components include polyether imide, polycarbonate, and barium sulfate; stainless-steel spring in valve mechanism.
• Not made with natural rubber latex or DEHP.

Ports and Connections

• Gastric feeding port only (no jejunal port).
• ENFit (ISO 80369-3) connectors via the extension sets; medication port on the 2-port Y continuous-feed extension.

Sizes and Balloon Guidance

• French sizes: 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24 Fr.
• Stoma lengths (cm): 0.8 to 5.0 depending on size range; examples include 12 Fr (0.8–4.0 cm), 14–20 Fr (0.8–5.0 cm), 24 Fr (1.5–5.0 cm). Example option: 16 Fr × 0.8 cm.
• Balloon inflation (sterile/distilled water only): 12 Fr—3 mL recommended (max 5 mL); 14–24 Fr—5 mL recommended (max 10 mL).

• MIC-KEY Low-Profile G-tube (ethylene oxide sterilized).
• Continuous Feed Extension Set, right-angle, 2-port Y, ENFit, ~12 in/30 cm, with clamp and medication port.
• Bolus Feed Extension Set, straight, ENFit, ~12 in/30 cm, with clamp.
• 35 mL ENFit enteral syringe; 6 mL Luer slip syringe for balloon inflation/deflation.
• Gauze pads. Insertion stylet and water-soluble lubricant (included in some regions).

Sterility, Reuse, and Compatibility

• G-tube: single-use only; do not re-use, re-process, or re-sterilize.
• Extension sets: non-sterile; reusable for a single patient only.
• Use MIC-KEY extension sets with the MIC-KEY button to ensure proper fit and function.

Contraindications (non-exhaustive)

Ascites, colonic interposition, portal hypertension, peritonitis, morbid obesity.

Regulatory and Storage

• CE marked (Class IIb); manufactured under an ISO 13485–compliant quality system.
• Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and radiation. Typical shelf life: 2 years from date of manufacture.
