Description
The Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Balloon Gastrostomy Button (G-tube) Kit with ENFit extension sets is a skin-level device for long-term enteral feeding, medication delivery, and gastric decompression/venting in pediatric and adult patients. The button is made from high-clarity, medical-grade silicone with a radiopaque stripe and a recessed distal tip for comfort and visibility. An inflatable internal retention balloon secures the tube. The device is sterile (ethylene oxide), single-use, and not made with natural rubber latex or DEHP as a plasticizer.
Ports and connections
- Feeding port includes an anti-reflux valve that remains closed unless an extension set is attached. Do not introduce feeds or medications directly into the valve; always use an extension set.
- Button-to-extension interface: MIC-KEY SECUR-LOK quarter-turn connection with alignment marks for a secure lock.
- Extension sets provide ENFit connectors compatible with ENFit syringes and feeding sets. Use only MIC-KEY extension sets with the MIC-KEY feeding port.
Sizes and balloon inflation
- French sizes: 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24 Fr.
- Stoma (shaft) lengths (cm): 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 1.7, 2.0, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 (availability may vary by Fr size).
- Balloon inflation with sterile or distilled water only:
- 12 Fr: recommended 3 mL; maximum 5 mL.
- 14–24 Fr: recommended 5 mL; maximum 10 mL.
- Do not use air, saline, contrast media, or medications to inflate the balloon.
Kit contents (ENFit configuration)
- MIC-KEY Low-Profile Gastrostomy Button (G).
- Continuous Feed Extension Set, 12 in (≈30 cm), right‑angle SECUR-LOK patient-end, ENFit Y with medication port.
- Bolus Feed Extension Set, 12 in (≈30 cm), straight SECUR-LOK patient-end, ENFit connector.
- 6 mL luer slip syringe (for balloon inflation/deflation).
- 35 mL ENFit enteral syringe.
- Gauze pad.
- Insertion stylet and water‑soluble lubricant (included in some regions; not universal).
- Stoma Measuring Device is not included.
Extension sets (compatibility/attributes)
- Designed for MIC-KEY G, J, and GJ low-profile tubes; non-sterile; reusable for a single patient; latex-free; DEHP-free.
- Common options include continuous feed (right‑angle, Y with medication port) and bolus (straight or right‑angle); typical lengths 30 cm and 60 cm. Replace per IFU.
Placement and replacement
- May be placed percutaneously under fluoroscopic, laparoscopic, or endoscopic guidance, or used as a replacement in an established tract. Replacement timing is determined by the clinician per IFU.
MRI safety (MR Conditional)
- MR Conditional at 1.5 T and 3 T; maximum spatial gradient 1,960 G/cm (≈196.7 mT/m); whole‑body SAR < 2 W/kg (Normal Operating Mode).
- Expected maximum temperature rise < 1.3 °C after 15 minutes of continuous scanning; image artifact extends < 45 mm at 3 T (gradient echo).
Use and care highlights
- Flush extension sets and the tube before and after use to help prevent clogging.
- To connect: align black marks, push firmly, then turn clockwise up to about 3/4 turn to lock; keep locked during feeding. To disconnect: turn counter‑clockwise to realign marks and detach. Avoid overtightening ENFit connections.
- When properly sized, the external base should rest approximately 1–2 mm above the skin; stoma length must be measured by a clinician (MIC-KEY Over‑the‑Wire Stoma Measuring Device available separately).
