Description
The Avanos MIC ENFit Jejunal (J) Feeding Tube is a medical‑grade silicone device designed to provide enteral access to the distal duodenum/proximal jejunum for delivery of nutrition and medications to the small intestine. It is intended for patients who cannot reliably receive or tolerate gastric feeding due to impaired absorption via the stomach, intestinal motility disorders, gastric outlet obstruction, severe GERD, aspiration risk, or following upper GI surgery such as esophagectomy or partial gastrectomy. The tube is placed through a gastric stoma and may be positioned endoscopically, radiologically (fluoroscopically), surgically, or used as a replacement via an established stoma tract.
Key Features
- Medical‑grade silicone construction for flexibility and biocompatibility.
- Retention system includes an inflatable internal silicone balloon and a SECUR‑LOK external retention ring for external stabilization.
- White BAL port with French size clearly printed on the port for quick identification.
- ENFit feeding port labeled “Jejunal”; no separate medication port.
- Centimeter markings along the shaft to assist with external length reference.
- Radiopaque stripe along the tube length to aid visualization under imaging.
- Distal tip can be trimmed to achieve patient‑specific length.
- Single‑use and sterile; suitable for adult and pediatric populations.
Technical Specifications
- Standard jejunal length: 51 cm (measured from the distal aspect of the balloon to the tube tip).
- Available sizes: 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24 Fr.
- Balloon fill volumes (per IFU):
- 12 Fr: 2–3 mL
- 14–24 Fr: 7–10 mL
Intended Use and Placement Considerations
- Provides post‑pyloric access for enteral nutrition and medication delivery when gastric feeding is contraindicated or insufficient.
- Typical clinical scenarios include impaired gastric emptying, high risk of aspiration, severe reflux, mechanical obstruction at the gastric outlet, and post‑operative needs after upper GI surgeries.
- Placement routes: endoscopic, radiologic (fluoroscopic), surgical, or replacement through an existing stoma tract.
- Verify position and function per institutional protocols and the device’s instructions for use before initiating feeding or medication administration.
