Description

A double‑lumen, balloon‑retained transgastric‑jejunal device, the Avanos MIC ENFit Gastrojejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube enables simultaneous jejunal feeding and gastric decompression/venting. It is suitable for initial endoscopic or fluoroscopic placement and for replacement in an established stoma tract. Intended for patients who cannot adequately absorb nutrition via the stomach, including those with intestinal dysmotility, gastric outlet obstruction, severe reflux/aspiration risk, or post‑esophagectomy/gastrectomy.

Ports and connectors

  • Labeled ports: JEJUNAL (feeding), GASTRIC (decompression/drainage), BAL (balloon inflation/deflation).
  • JEJUNAL and GASTRIC: male ENFit connectors; no separate medication port.
  • BAL: inflate/deflate using a luer‑slip syringe.

Use and key precautions

  • Jejunal port: feeding/medications to small intestine via feeding pump only; not for gravity or bolus feeds; do not connect to suction; do not check residuals.
  • Gastric port: decompression/venting and drainage to gravity or low intermittent suction only (avoid continuous or high suction).
  • Flush both ports at least every 6 hours with ≥30 mL water; keep connectors clean; do not use force.
  • Do not rotate GJ tubes (rotation may torque the jejunal limb and cause kinking or retraction).

Retention and securement

  • Internal silicone retention balloon seals the stoma to reduce leakage.
  • Balloon fill: 7–10 mL sterile water only; never exceed 10 mL. Withdraw all water before refilling; check volume weekly.
  • External SECUR‑LOK retention ring: position about 3 mm from the stoma; do not tape the ring or press it tightly against the abdomen.

Construction and verification

  • Medical‑grade silicone tube with internal silicone balloon; tapered distal tip; multiple gastric and jejunal exit ports.
  • Radiopacity: tungsten‑weighted jejunal segment; barium‑sulfate radiopaque stripe on gastric segment.
  • Centimeter markings to verify external length/position. Jejunal length is measured from the distal aspect of the balloon to the catheter tip.

Sizes (ENFit versions)

  • 16 Fr: jejunal lengths 15, 22, 30, 45 cm.
  • 18 Fr: jejunal lengths 22, 30, 45 cm.
  • 22 Fr: jejunal length 45 cm.

Included components (typical kit)

  • MIC GJ tube (ENFit), stainless steel Teflon‑coated guidewire, 35 mL ENFit syringe, 6 mL luer‑slip syringe, SECUR‑LOK ring, water‑soluble lubricant, Directions for Use and Patient Care Guidelines.

Cautions and troubleshooting

  • Use only low intermittent suction on the gastric port.
  • Prevent feeding set separation: clean external port surfaces; use soap/water or alcohol externally only—do not allow alcohol inside the tube.
  • Monitor for tube migration (change in external length); adjust the SECUR‑LOK ring and verify balloon position against the stomach wall as needed.

Materials and biocompatibility

  • Silicone, tungsten (radiopaque filler), barium sulfate (radiopaque stripe), and polymer components (e.g., polypropylene/Tritan connectors).
  • Not made with natural rubber latex; not made with phthalates DEHP/DBP/BBP.

Sterility and regulatory

  • Sterile, single‑use; do not reuse, reprocess, or re‑sterilize; do not use if the package is damaged.
  • Sterilized by ethylene oxide (EO). Prescription device (Rx only). ISO 13485 compliant; CE marked (Class IIb).

Storage and manufacturer

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and radiation.
  • Manufacturer: Avanos Medical (distributed in the USA by Avanos Medical Sales, LLC).
