Description
The Avanos MIC ENFit Gastrojejunal (GJ) Feeding Tube is a balloon-retained, transgastric–jejunal device that supports simultaneous gastric decompression/drainage and jejunal delivery of enteral nutrition and medications. It is intended for patients who do not adequately tolerate or absorb gastric feeding, such as those with intestinal dysmotility, gastric outlet obstruction, severe reflux or aspiration risk, or following esophagectomy/gastrectomy.
Indications
- For jejunal feeding with concurrent gastric decompression/drainage in patients who cannot tolerate gastric feeds.
Design and Key Features
- Double-lumen configuration with separate gastric (drainage) and jejunal (feeding) channels.
- Male ENFit connectors on gastric and jejunal ports; no separate medication port. Balloon port uses a separate luer-slip valve.
- Internal silicone retention balloon; typical fill 7–10 mL (maximum 10 mL). Fill with sterile or distilled water only.
- SECUR-LOK external retention ring for external stabilization and depth control.
- Tapered distal tip with multiple exit ports in both gastric and jejunal segments to promote flow.
- Radiopaque for imaging: tungsten-weighted jejunal segment and radiopaque stripe (barium-sulfate) on the gastric segment; centimeter markings assist in verifying position.
- Medical-grade silicone construction; not made with natural rubber latex, DEHP, DBP, or BBP.
Placement and Measurement
- Suitable for initial endoscopic or fluoroscopic placement and for replacement in a mature stoma tract.
- Jejunal length is measured from the distal aspect of the retention balloon to the catheter tip.
Sizes and Options (ENFit)
- 16 Fr outer diameter: jejunal lengths 15, 22, 30, 45 cm.
- 18 Fr outer diameter: jejunal lengths 22, 30, 45 cm.
- 22 Fr outer diameter: jejunal length 45 cm.
Typical Kit Contents
- GJ feeding tube with ENFit connectors and SECUR-LOK external ring.
- Coated guidewire.
- 35 mL ENFit syringe.
- 6 mL luer-slip syringe (for balloon inflation/deflation).
- Water-soluble lubricant.
- Instructions for Use and Patient Care Guidelines.
Use and Handling Highlights
- Sterile, single-use device; ethylene oxide sterilized; prescription use only. Do not re-use, re-process, or re-sterilize. Do not use if package is damaged.
- Use a feeding pump for jejunal feeding; do not administer bolus or gravity feeds via the jejunal lumen.
- Do not rotate the tube; jejunal extensions may kink or retract. Flush lumens per IFU. Inflate balloon with sterile/distilled water only.
Contraindications (device family)
- Ascites, colonic interposition, portal hypertension, peritonitis, morbid obesity.
