Description
The Avanos MIC Balloon Gastrostomy Feeding Tube (22 Fr) is a balloon-retained, medical‑grade silicone device that provides long‑term gastric access for enteral nutrition, medication delivery, and gastric decompression in pediatric and adult patients. This is a gastric tube only and is not a gastro‑jejunal device; there is no jejunal port.
Indications and placement
- For patients who cannot tolerate oral feeding and are at low risk for aspiration
- Placement may be surgical or percutaneous under endoscopic or fluoroscopic guidance
- Suitable as a replacement tube through a mature, established stoma tract
Connectors and ports
- ENFit Y‑connector compliant with ISO 80369‑3
- Two separate gastric ENFit ports: one for feeding and one for medication/water flushes
- Dedicated balloon inflation port (luer‑slip)
- No jejunal port
Design and materials
- Medical‑grade silicone tube for flexibility and patient comfort
- Internal inflatable silicone retention balloon for intragastric fixation
- SECUR‑LOK external retention ring (external bolster) enables secure fixation and bedside adjustment
- Radiopaque stripe to aid visualization under X‑ray
- Recessed distal tip for the 22 Fr size (14–30 Fr use recessed tips; 12 Fr uses a tapered tip)
Sterility and safety
- Sterile; gamma sterilized
- Single‑use only (do not reuse, reprocess, or resterilize)
- Prescription device (Rx)
- Not made with natural rubber latex
- Not formulated with DEHP, DBP, or BBP
- MR Safe
Use and maintenance
- Inflate the retention balloon with sterile or distilled water only; balloon fill volume is size‑dependent—follow device labeling and facility protocol
- Check and maintain balloon volume per protocol to help reduce dislodgement risk
- Adjust the external retention ring to maintain appropriate external length and minimize skin pressure
- Flush per enteral feeding protocols; use compatible ENFit syringes and feeding sets
Size and range
- Size: 22 Fr (outer diameter approximately 7.3 mm)
- Part of the MIC ENFit Y‑connector gastrostomy tube range (approximately 12–30 Fr); 12 Fr has a tapered tip, while 14–30 Fr—including 22 Fr—feature a recessed distal tip
