Description
Mepilex Ag is an advanced wound dressing developed by Mölnlycke Health Care, designed to manage low to moderately exuding wounds such as leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, and partial thickness burns. This dressing is particularly suitable for use on infected wounds, providing a comprehensive solution under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
Antimicrobial Properties
The dressing contains silver sulphate, offering broad-spectrum antimicrobial action. It effectively inactivates wound-relevant pathogens, including bacteria and fungi such as MRSA and VRE, within 30 minutes. This antimicrobial efficacy can be sustained for up to seven days, providing long-lasting protection.
Safetac® Technology
Mepilex Ag features Safetac® technology, a soft silicone contact layer that gently adheres to the skin. This minimizes pain and trauma during dressing changes and reduces the risk of maceration. The flexible, absorbent polyurethane foam pad manages exudate levels, maintaining a moist wound environment and acting as a barrier to external contaminants.
Design and Comfort
The dressing is soft, conformable, and breathable, allowing it to be cut to size for various wound shapes and locations. It should overlap the dry surrounding skin by at least 1–2 cm for smaller sizes and up to 5 cm for larger sizes. Mepilex Ag can be used under compression bandaging and secured with a fixation device or secondary dressing as needed.
Wear Time and Sterility
Mepilex Ag can remain in place for up to seven days, depending on the wound condition and exudate level. Each dressing is supplied sterile and individually packaged, ensuring a high standard of care.
