Description

The Hem-o-lok® Polymer Locking Ligation System, known as HEMOLOK CLIPS, offers a reliable solution for secure closure and ligation of vessels or tissue structures in both minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. Developed by Teleflex Medical under the Weck Closure Systems brand, these clips are widely utilized across various surgical disciplines, including laparoscopic, robotic, and general surgeries.

Key Features

Crafted from a biocompatible, medical-grade acetyl polymer, HEMOLOK CLIPS are non-absorbable, inert, and non-conductive. Their radiolucent properties ensure they do not interfere with diagnostic imaging such as CT, MRI, or X-rays, while some models include radiopaque markers for enhanced imaging visibility. The proprietary distal locking mechanism provides both tactile and auditory feedback, ensuring a secure closure with each application.

The design includes integrated ridges and teeth, offering a 360° grip to prevent slippage. A flexible hinge allows the clips to pass through smaller ports, providing a larger distal opening compared to traditional metal clips. Color-coded for easy size identification, these clips are supplied sterile in cartridges for single use, compatible with Weck Open and Endoscopic Clip Appliers and Removers.

Size Options

HEMOLOK CLIPS are available in various sizes to accommodate a range of vessel diameters:

  • Medium (M): 2–7 mm
  • Medium-Large (M/L): 3–10 mm
  • Large (L): 5–13 mm
  • Extra Large (XL): 7–16 mm

They offer ligation capacity through trocars of different sizes, enhancing versatility in surgical settings.

Indications and Contraindications

These clips are indicated for use in surgeries requiring effective hemostasis or tissue closure, such as nephrectomy, cholecystectomy, and various urological, gynecological, and cardiovascular procedures. However, they are not intended for use as a fallopian contraceptive device or for ligating the renal artery during laparoscopic donor nephrectomies.

Clinical Performance

HEMOLOK CLIPS have demonstrated effectiveness in vascular control with low complication rates. Proper application technique is crucial, involving complete circumferential dissection and appropriate clip sizing. Clinical studies highlight their advantages over traditional suture techniques, including reduced operative times and lower complication rates.

Maintenance

The associated appliers and removers require proper cleaning and sterilization. Some appliers feature cleaning ports, and it is recommended to use non-silicone, water-based surgical-grade lubricants for maintenance. Ensuring alignment and condition of the appliers before use is essential for optimal performance.

Regulatory Compliance

Classified as a Class II medical device, HEMOLOK CLIPS comply with relevant safety standards, including ISO10993-1 for patient-contacting materials. Their design and performance have been rigorously tested, making them a trusted choice for surgeons worldwide.

Packaging

Each box contains 14 cartridges, with each cartridge holding 6 clips, providing ample supply for surgical needs. The system's advantages include secure ligation with minimal tissue trauma, enhanced visualization, and reduced risk of thermal injury, contributing to improved surgical outcomes and efficiency.
