Overview
The Nutricia Flocare nasogastric (NG) enteral feeding tube is a 110 cm, single‑use device designed for short‑term gastric feeding. Part of the Flocare range, it is available in medical‑grade polyurethane (PUR) and a PURsoft variant to support patient comfort and clinical handling. The tube features ENFit connectivity and clear depth markings to assist with accurate placement and routine position checks in both adult and paediatric care.
Intended Use and Duration
- For short‑term gastric feeding via the nose into the stomach
- Maximum in‑situ duration: 6–8 weeks; replace approximately every 6–8 weeks
Materials and Construction
- Medical‑grade polyurethane (transparent, skin‑friendly)
- Latex‑free and DEHP‑free
Connector and Placement Aid
- Patient‑end connection: ENFit
- Guidewire with lubricated, welded ball tip to aid placement; remove after confirmation of position per local protocol
Radiopacity and Markings
- Radiopaque along the entire length
- Three white radiopaque lines enhance X‑ray visibility
- Blue 1 cm graduation markings support depth and migration checks
Design Details
- PUR range: Open, rounded tip with lateral outlets; the guidewire terminates before the first lateral hole to help protect mucosa
- PURsoft range: Closed, radiopaque tip with lateral outlets; the guidewire extends into the tip
- Color‑coded size indicators for quick identification
Sizes and Variants (110 cm)
- PUR: CH6, CH8, CH10, CH12; CH14 also available
- A CH14 PUR variant includes an additional suction port for gastric decompression
- PURsoft: CH10, CH14 (guidewire variants available)
Suitability
- For adults and children; select size according to clinical judgment
Safety Information
- Do not use in patients with delayed gastric emptying and/or at risk of aspiration
- Begin feeding only after tube position is verified per local protocol
- Stop feeding and seek urgent medical advice if respiratory distress occurs
Care and Handling
- Maintain aseptic technique during insertion and handling
- Flush the tube before and after feeds and medications, and at regular intervals to maintain patency
- Monitor and document the external length/centimetre mark to detect potential migration
Storage
- Keep clean and dry; protect from dust and direct sunlight
