Description
The Nutricia Flocare ENFit Gastrostomy Tube (G‑Tube) is a balloon‑retained, medical‑grade silicone gastrostomy catheter designed for long‑term enteral feeding and/or gastric decompression. It is intended as a replacement tube for a previously established gastrostomy stoma and is not for initial placement. The patient‑end connection is ENFit compliant (ISO 80369‑3).
Key design and materials
- Transparent, medical‑grade silicone; latex‑free and DEHP‑free
- Internal silicone retention balloon for secure intragastric anchoring
- External 90° silicone fixation disc to support a kink‑resistant bend and help protect skin
- Radio‑opaque along the tube with 1 cm graduation markings for position verification
- Quick‑release clamp to control flow during bolus feeding and help reduce backflow
- Color‑coded balloon inflation port indicates Charrière (CH) size; balloon fill volume printed on tube/port
- ENFit patient‑end connection (ISO 80369‑3)
Sizes and balloon fill volumes
- CH14 (Green): 5 mL
- CH18 (Red): 15 mL
- CH20 (Yellow): 15 mL
Indications
- Long‑term gastric feeding and/or stomach decompression
- Replacement tube for an established gastrostomy stoma
Contraindications
- Infected stoma site
- Ascites
- Peritoneal carcinoma
Handling, use and care (high‑level)
- Maintain strict hygiene when handling feeds, tubes and sets.
- Before use, verify the external cm marking at skin level has not changed.
- Position the external fixation disc approximately 2–5 mm from the skin; advance and rotate the tube periodically if advised by a healthcare professional.
- Flush with water before and after feeds and medication administration (at least three times daily).
- Inflate the balloon with water via the dedicated inflation port; a 10 mL Luer eccentric enteral syringe can be used. Do not overfill. Maintain the manufacturer‑recommended volume and check it at the advised frequency (commonly weekly).
- If trained and tube position is correct, unblock using a 60 mL enteral syringe with warm water (or soda water if advised). Do not use acidic solutions.
- Avoid creams or talc at the stoma site as they may damage the tube or affect fixation. Bathing/swimming is generally allowed once the tract is fully formed; dry the tube and site afterwards.
Safety and troubleshooting
- Seek urgent medical attention for pain on feeding/flushing, post‑procedure distress, new bleeding, or leakage around the tube (especially within 72 hours of insertion).
- If no water can be withdrawn from the balloon, or the balloon does not hold volume, do not use the tube; contact a healthcare professional.
- If the tube comes out, it requires urgent replacement to prevent stoma closure.
Storage
- Store in a clean, dry environment; protect from dust, rain and direct sunlight.
