Description
Overview
Discofix C by B. Braun is a multidirectional 3‑way stopcock engineered for infusion therapy and invasive pressure monitoring. It provides needle‑free patient access and precise control of fluid pathways for parallel or sequential administration, injection, aspiration, and blood sampling. With pressure resistance up to 2.0 bar, it supports both gravity and pressure infusions.
Core functions
- Adjustable handle for directing flow or closing the circuit
- Supports administration of one or more solutions/drugs in parallel or sequentially
- Enables injection and aspiration of fluids
- Suitable for blood sampling and as a control element in invasive pressure monitoring
Safety and performance
- Material design resists environmental stress cracking to help prevent leakage, air ingress/embolism, and chemical/microbiological contamination; can help reduce set changes
- When connected to an ISO 80369‑7–compliant luer counterpart, the assembly is bacteria‑tight and functions as a closed system per the NIOSH definition (helps prevent ingress/egress of contaminants)
- Pressure resistance up to 2.0 bar for gravity and pressure infusions
Usability and handling
- Rotating adapter turns 360° on its own axis for comfortable positioning without twisting lines or risking disconnection
- Distinct tactile feedback at every 45° to confirm open/closed port alignment
- Ergonomic design for consistent, secure handling
Compatibility and standards
- Conforms to ISO 80369‑7 (intravascular/hypodermic)
- Compatible with luer lock and luer slip counterparts
Materials and safety
- DEHP‑free; DEHT plasticizer used where plasticizers apply
- Stopcock components presented as PVC‑free; connection tubing options include PVC‑free variants
Care and maintenance
- Change interval: follow national and institutional guidelines
- Disinfection: compatible with wipe/spray disinfectants such as isopropanol (IPA), chlorhexidine (CHX), and alcohol‑based agents
Therapy applications and patients
- Applications: infusion and injection therapy, blood sampling, aspiration of body fluids, invasive pressure monitoring
- Intended for all ages (neonates, pediatrics, adults, geriatrics) in inpatient and outpatient settings
Variants and options
- Color‑coded 3‑way stopcocks: Blue, White, Red
- With connection tubing: integrated extension line to position the stopcock away from the insertion site; typical lengths include 10 cm, 25 cm, 75 cm, and 100 cm
- Extension line toward the male port helps limit catheter movement and vascular irritation
