Description
Cellacast Soft by Lohmann & Rauscher is a versatile semi-rigid casting tape designed for effective immobilization in various medical scenarios. Ideal for both adults and children, it serves well in managing fractures, post-surgical recovery, and orthopedic corrections involving joints, bones, ligaments, and tendons. Its unique composition makes it particularly suitable for cases where full rigidity is not required, such as in pediatric casts.
Material Composition
Crafted from a knitted fiberglass mesh, Cellacast Soft is impregnated with polyurethane resin, providing a flexible yet durable structure. The material is air-permeable and break-proof, ensuring comfort and longevity. Its transparency to X-rays allows for easy monitoring of the healing process without removing the cast.
Key Features
-
Flexibility and Comfort: The tape's diagonal and widthwise elasticity ensures excellent conformability to body contours, requiring only a few layers for effective immobilization. This results in a lightweight and comfortable cast with soft edges that can be easily cut before and after drying.
-
Application Versatility: It can be applied directly over tubular padding or combined with other casting materials like Cellacast Xtra for enhanced stability in specific areas.
Application Guidelines
Application should be performed by trained personnel using protective gloves. The recommended water activation temperature is between 20–24°C, with a moulding time of 2.5 to 5 minutes. The cast sets within 4 to 5 minutes and becomes fully weight-bearing after 20 to 30 minutes. Removal is straightforward with standard cast scissors, and the cast can be windowed or bivalved if necessary.
Available Sizes and Colors
Cellacast Soft is available in various sizes, ranging from 2.5 cm to 12.5 cm in width, and comes in lengths suitable for different needs. Color options include cream, blue, red, black, and purple, with each bandage individually sealed in a foil pouch. Typically, it is supplied in boxes containing 10 rolls.
Storage Instructions
For optimal performance, store the product below 24°C in a dry environment. The shelf life is two years if the packaging remains undamaged and unopened. Premature exposure to air or moisture should be avoided to prevent hardening.
Safety Precautions
The tape contains isocyanates, which may cause skin, eye, or respiratory irritation. Therefore, it should be used in well-ventilated areas, with gloves being mandatory and face masks recommended during removal with oscillating saws. Direct skin contact should be avoided before the cast sets.
Maintenance Tips
If the cast is water-resistant, it should be rinsed with clear water and allowed to dry naturally. Avoid using soaps, fragrances, or powders inside the cast. After removal, gentle movement is advised, and high-impact activities should be avoided for two weeks to ensure proper recovery.
