Cellacast® Soft by Lohmann & Rauscher is an innovative semi-rigid casting tape designed for effective functional immobilization. Ideal for use following fractures, surgeries, and orthopedic corrections, it provides reliable support for joint, bone, ligament, and tendon injuries. This product is intended for application by trained professionals, often in combination with a rigid splint when stronger immobilization is necessary.

Material Composition

• Carrier: Knitted glass fiber fabric, approximately 60%
• Resin: Polyurethane prepolymer, approximately 40%

The tape contains isocyanates before hardening and includes natural rubber latex. Users should be aware of potential exposure to Cumene, a chemical known to pose certain health risks.

Application Instructions

To apply, the tape should be used over appropriate undercast material and padding. It is crucial to open only one sealed pouch at a time to prevent premature hardening. Activation involves dipping the tape in water at 20–24°C, followed by careful application in overlapping circular turns. The moulding time is approximately 2.5–3 minutes, with a setting time of 4–5 minutes. The cast becomes fully weight-bearing within 20–30 minutes.

Safety Precautions

• Protective Gear: Gloves should be worn during application, and face masks are recommended when removing the cast.
• Ventilation: Ensure a well-ventilated environment to avoid direct contact with uncured material, which may cause irritation.

Once the resin has set, disposal can be managed with household waste, adhering to local environmental guidelines. The product is not highly biodegradable, so responsible disposal is encouraged.
