Description
Cellacast® Soft by Lohmann & Rauscher is a specialized semi-rigid casting tape designed for effective immobilization in clinical settings. Ideal for managing fractures, post-surgical care, and orthopedic corrections, it provides the necessary support while allowing some flexibility. This makes it suitable for both adult and pediatric patients, ensuring comfort and stability during recovery.
Key Features
- Material Composition: Comprised of a knitted fiberglass mesh and a polyurethane resin, Cellacast® Soft is lightweight, air-permeable, and radiolucent, allowing X-rays to pass through without interference.
- Elasticity: Its diagonal and widthwise elasticity ensures excellent conformity to body contours, providing a snug fit with soft, flexible edges for enhanced patient comfort.
- Layer Efficiency: Requires fewer layers for effective immobilization and remains flexible even in multiple layers. It can be easily cut, windowed, or removed with standard cast scissors.
Application Instructions
- Preparation: Apply over undercast material and padding. Gloves are mandatory during application due to potential skin, eye, or respiratory irritation. Ensure the area is well-ventilated.
- Activation: Activate by dipping in water at 20–24°C. Apply in circular turns, overlapping each turn by half. Moulding time is approximately 2.5–3 minutes, with a setting time of 4–5 minutes. The cast becomes fully weight-bearing after 20–30 minutes.
- Precautions: Not advisable to bathe with the cast. Open only one pouch at a time to prevent premature setting.
Availability
Cellacast® Soft is available in various sizes and colors, including cream, blue, red, black, and purple. Each roll is individually sealed in a foil pouch, with typically 10 rolls per box.
Storage and Handling
- Storage Conditions: Store below 24°C, keeping it dry and away from sunlight and moisture. Adheres to a shelf life of 2 years under recommended conditions.
- Safety Measures: Contains isocyanates and natural rubber latex, which may cause irritation or allergic reactions. Classified as hazardous material, requiring careful handling and disposal according to local guidelines.
Environmental Considerations
Disposal should be managed by allowing the resin to set before discarding. Though not highly biodegradable, it can be disposed of through incineration or landfill, resulting in minimal environmental impact.
Additional Notes
For enhanced stability, it can be combined with Cellacast® Xtra. Suitable for application with standard examination gloves, making it a versatile and reliable choice for healthcare professionals.
