What it is

Nutricia Calogen is a ready-to-use, energy-dense, shot-style oral nutritional supplement. It is a protein-free, fibre-free long-chain triglyceride (LCT) fat emulsion providing 100% of energy from fat with minimal carbohydrate and negligible electrolytes. Classified as a Food for Special Medical Purposes, it is for enteral use only and must be used under medical supervision.

• Take as small “shots,” mix into foods or suitable fluids.
• Use alongside other oral nutrition supplements or as an energy enhancer in tube feeds.
• Can replace milk in protein-restricted diets.

Ingredients

• Neutral: Vegetable oils (rapeseed, sunflower), demineralised water, emulsifier (citric acid esters of mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids).
• Strawberry: Vegetable oils (rapeseed, sunflower), demineralised water, sugar, emulsifier (citric acid esters of mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids), strawberry flavour, colour (E120).

Indications (dietary management)

• Disease-related malnutrition.
• High energy requirements or volume/fluid restriction.
• Electrolyte/mineral restriction.
• Protein-restricted or residue-restricted diets; poor compliance to standard multi-nutrient ONS.

Directions for use

• Shake well before use.
• Intake to be determined by a healthcare professional; typical 3 × 30 ml/day.
• Take undiluted, diluted with suitable liquids, or mixed into foods; may require dilution for children under 5 years.

Important notices

• Not suitable as a sole source of nutrition; not for parenteral use.
• Not suitable for patients with galactosaemia.
• Use with caution in children under 6 years.
• Strawberry flavour: not suitable for infants/children under 3 years; may require dilution under 5 years. Neutral may also require dilution under 5 years.
• Use only under medical supervision.

Storage

• Store in a cool, dry place; do not freeze.
• Once opened, reseal, refrigerate, and use within 14 days; discard unused contents thereafter.
