Description
AQUACEL® Foam by ConvaTec is an advanced wound dressing engineered for both exuding and non-exuding wounds, as well as for safeguarding intact skin. This innovative product integrates Hydrofiber™ Technology, which transforms into a cohesive gel upon contact with wound fluid. This gel formation effectively locks in exudate and bacteria, while micro-contouring to the wound bed to maintain optimal moisture balance.
Key Features
- Soft Absorbent Foam Pad: The dressing includes a soft, absorbent foam pad that manages wound exudate, minimizing the risk of maceration.
- Waterproof and Bacteria-Proof Barrier: Its outer layer protects the wound from external contaminants, allowing for showering without compromising wound safety.
- Silicone Adhesive Border: In adhesive versions, a gentle silicone adhesive ensures the dressing adheres to the surrounding skin but not the wound bed, enabling atraumatic removal.
Versatility and Comfort
AQUACEL® Foam is available in both adhesive and non-adhesive formats, and in various shapes and sizes, making it suitable for different wound locations and types. Its flexibility and conformability allow it to be used on challenging areas such as heels, sacrum, elbows, fingers, and toes. The dressing is designed to be skin-friendly, with a low potential for dermal irritation or sensitization.
Indications for Use
This dressing is indicated for a wide range of wounds, including:
- Leg ulcers
- Pressure ulcers
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Surgical wounds
- Partial thickness burns
- Traumatic wounds
It also serves as a protective layer for intact skin at risk of breakdown, helping to prevent damage from friction and moisture.
Special Variant: AQUACEL™ Ag Foam
AQUACEL™ Ag Foam contains 1.2% ionic silver, providing antimicrobial protection for wounds at risk of infection. This variant offers a barrier against bacteria, viruses, and water, enhancing wound care in vulnerable situations.
Application and Wear Time
The dressing can be worn for up to seven days or changed as clinically indicated. It is designed for single use and should not be reused. AQUACEL® Foam is not compatible with oxidizing agents or oil-based products and should not be used by individuals sensitive to its components. It is safe for use during MRI procedures and should be stored at room temperature, away from light.
Practical Use
Suitable for application by healthcare professionals, carers, and patients under professional guidance, AQUACEL® Foam can be worn during showering but should not be submerged during bathing or swimming. Its removal involves gently lifting the edges, ensuring ease of use and comfort for the wearer.
