Crafted as a combination of an artificial iris and a monofocal intraocular lens, the 67B Aniridia IOL features a refractive, spheric lens with added spherical aberration of +0.2μ. Its biconvex optic shape and black coloration are distinctive, with the latter potentially being more noticeable in individuals with lighter irises. The lens is not preloaded, offering flexibility during surgical procedures.

Material Composition

The optic and haptic components of the lens are made from black PEMA and PMMA materials. The lens has an overall diameter of 12.5 mm, with an optic (pupillary aperture) diameter of 3.0 mm. The diaphragm size ranges from 3.0 mm to 10.0 mm, and the required incision size is 5.2 mm. The haptic angulation is set at 0°.

Optical Properties

With a refractive index of 1.49 and an A constant of 119.6 when sclera sutured, the lens offers specific optical characteristics. The ACD constant is either 5.37 or 5.90, depending on scleral suturing. While it does not provide astigmatism correction, the lens includes UV-light protection, though it lacks additional blue light control.

Implantation and Placement

The Morcher 67B Aniridia IOL is designed for sulcus placement or scleral suturing using a 9-0 Prolene with a spatula needle. Some procedures may require a large incision of over 10.0 mm. Surgeons should consider these specifications during implantation to achieve optimal outcomes.

This intraocular lens is not FDA approved and is available in the United States solely through clinical trials or compassionate use exemptions. The lack of color options limits cosmetic outcomes, as the lens is only available in black.
