Description
The 20Fr MIC-KEY Low Profile Balloon Gastrostomy Feeding Tube is an essential medical device designed for patients requiring long-term enteral feeding, medication delivery, or gastric decompression. Developed by Kimberly-Clark / Avanos Medical, this tube is ideal for both pediatric and adult patients who cannot tolerate oral feeding or need gastric decompression.
Key Features
- Low-Profile Design: The tube sits flush against the skin, providing comfort and discretion while minimizing the risk of accidental removal or snagging.
- Material: Constructed from high-clarity, medical-grade silicone, it is soft, biocompatible, latex-free, and DEHP-free.
- Retention Mechanism: Features an inflatable internal retention balloon, with a recommended fill volume of 5 mL using sterile or distilled water.
Connector System
The tube includes ENFit® connectors and a SECUR-LOK* mechanism, ensuring secure attachment and compatibility with MIC-KEY extension sets. It has separate ports for feeding/medication and balloon inflation, with an anti-reflux valve in the feeding port.
Additional Features
- Distal Tip: The tapered, recessed distal tip allows for easier insertion and reduced trauma.
- Radiopaque Stripe: Enhances visibility under imaging.
- Sterility: Supplied sterile and intended for single-use only, sterilized by ethylene oxide or gamma irradiation.
- MR Conditional: Safe for MRI scanning up to 3 Tesla under specified conditions.

Indications and Contraindications
The device is indicated for long-term enteral feeding, medication delivery, and gastric decompression. Contraindications include conditions such as ascites, colonic interposition, portal hypertension, peritonitis, and morbid obesity.
Maintenance and Care
Proper maintenance includes daily cleaning of the tube and stoma site, rotating the tube as instructed, and checking for damage or clogging. Balloon volume should be checked weekly. Extension sets should be replaced every few weeks, and the tube should be replaced as determined by a clinician.
Potential Complications
Users should be aware of potential complications such as skin breakdown, leakage, blockage, and site irritation. The device is for prescription use only and should not be reused or resterilized. Proper connection and use of MIC-KEY G extension sets are crucial for safety.
